Oh, yes. Because we should worry about some election more than we should worry about tens of thousands on the verge of death in what is effectively the ruins of a country...
Let the conspiracy theories roll about how the Obama administration produced the earthquake that leveled a country simply to pass a few bills...
First of all, the United States is only obligated to protect the interests of the United States and its allies. The only interest in Haiti is publicity. That's it. It's not a democratic nation, we don't buy anything from them, and the collapse of the Haitian government is not vital to international peace and stability.

How about the human interest or the moral interest? What if our government doesn't have any ulterior motives here? What if they just saw tremendous suffering very close to our shores and decided that they had a moral obligation to help?
.Secondly, you misinterpreted the core of my message. At no point did I say the U.S. should not help in some capacity. However, it is not necessary for the media to be constantly reporting about Haiti 24/7. It really is not that big of a deal. It's just an unfortunate event that is distracting everyone from where their priorities should lie.

....Really? Ok, maybe the media should not report SOLELY on Haiti like it has been for the past week, but this is an event on monumental importance. I can't imagine what you think our priorities should currently be other than aiding 3 million people, the majority of which will surely die without assistance. If anything, a story such as this should show just how trivial Ted Kennedy's vacant senate seat really is in the grand scheme of things.
Attack my character all you want, but that will do nothing. Millions die every day. Where is the publicity for those people?
moneymatterz
That's a great question. Maybe the media should focus on those people instead of shoving partisanship down our throats and talking about healthcare to no end.

Do I think that this is a conspiracy to distract us? No. But yes, most of the people asking for money are doing it for publicity. In the realm of politics everyone is trying to act as the soft power.
And probably very little of the money donated to haiti will ever be used for haiti, especially with the fact that Haiti is not a big country. If you look at the tsunami that happened in asia, there is still lots of money unused. So maybe you should think about it before giving money to haiti.

Mental exercise time: if an earthquake destroyed Chicago
:( Why must you continue to use Chicago as an example?! Use Miami or some other big city....:xMany of the other countries already know the US government hit Haiti with the earthquake so I doubt this will change our image in the world view. There is a war that is about to begin...jakaraiI think I read this wrong unless you're actually insinuating that conspiracy theorists have moved on from claiming the government caused 9/11 to claiming the government caused a massive earthquake in Haiti.
i dont know if it is, i dont keep in touch with the latest us news, but is surely can be used as one and as a chance to appear compassionate. Most politicians and big corporate members dont give a damn if 200,200.000. or 200.000.000 die as long as its not them. They would kill their own mother for money.
Of course they will USE it as a big distraction if possible.
What about that cyber security act stuff? Isn't that happening right now too? Or will that be decided on later?
Also, media never covers what is Important. They are after readers and views, so they will instead go after sensation.
Not what is important, and not always what the people want.
If You want to take responsibility for Your brains and for being in some kind of society then You will have to find the real news Yourself. As long as Your internet is not censored You can do that easily.
why did this happen? i asked someone last night about this earthquake and she said nothing.
i think i donated $5NZ because that money was missing from my subcard? if it has gone somewhere, i hope it has gone there to help in haiti. given the projected loss of life, i am surprised not to have seen collection boxes in supermarkets and gas stations here already.
Man, that is just so wrong. You seem to value american life higher than other life. :? 500,000 people have died, that's a monumental number of people.I don't see the connection.
Devastation in Chicago would effect the infrastructure of the USA. Not to mention, among the vast majority of the dead would be American citizens.

Aww man... Just read this thread and please tell me no one actually believes this "HAARP" nonsense? I hope not as if so it makes me sad :(
Man, that is just so wrong. You seem to value american life higher than other life. :? 500,000 people have died, that's a monumental number of people. My God, that is wrong beyond all levels :| So if thousands of people in India died you wouldn't care? If millions of people in China died you wouldn't care? You make me sad and mad at the same time *sigh* Hell I'm already disappointed and mad that my city isn't doing anything for the Haitians![QUOTE="moneymatterz"]
