Looks like anything can be passed off as "art" these days.

That's what I was thinking, I've seen worse when I was in school. I see a lot worse when I close my eyes.[QUOTE="joesh89"]
Not that horrifying tbh.

I think the horrifying part is a thread full of ignorant people who have no idea what they're talking about.
While I'm not a big fan of Morimura's work, over the time that I've studied his work I've garnered an appreciation for it. Not once in this thread has anyone indicated why this work was created, any context and unfortunately art isn't as simple as just looking at a pretty picture any more.

i find it kinda' ironic that one of your points of criticism to the comments posted here, is that no one has cared to point out the reasoning behind his works -- yet you do not seem to do it yourself.
good show
He obviously has a thing for Japanese cross-dressing plagiarist artists :3how exactly did you find this? :|

Yeah, but he wasn't the one flat out dismissing it as garbage.

How is that ironic? I wasn't the one bashing one of the most notable contemporary artists based on a 300 x 380 JPEG.I think the horrifying part is a thread full of ignorant people who have no idea what they're talking about. Enlighten us. What social/politic/whatever statement is this piece hinting at? Also I didnt find the work horrifying. I saw a piece at MOCA Los Angeles that was just canvas, half green paint, half white paint and it was art somehow. Not so much horrifying as utterly enraging as it lead to contemplations of the sheer volume of useless people that occupy this planet (maybe that was the intent, I doubt it).
I also saw a beautiful piece of red-wood CNC machined and varnished in such a way that light reflects off of it in spectacular ways. That was a nice piece.
Yeah, but he wasn't the one flat out dismissing it as garbage.MrGeezerIt all amounts to the same thing in the comment. He/she shared his/her opinion on the artist without providing any argument as to why he/she feels the way he/she does about him. It should go both ways, otherwise it's really as profound or valid as "I like it" vs "I don't". Which is essentially what that comment amonts to. [QUOTE="Mu5uk0"][ How is that ironic? Well I guess you could call it creepy and whatnot but it isn't exactly garbage like I was hoping for.

No, he didn't give any kind of opinion about the art. He never once said that the pieces of art in question AREN'T garbage.

then what is this:

?
He doesen't have to say whether or not it's garbage in order for an opinion to be formed, he just needs to deduce and express whatever position he has on it, then you have an opinion.

And his quote is not addressing the two pieces shown, his quote is addressing the artist's overall work.
Or to put it another way, I appreciate Steven Spielberg's work. Does it follow that I don't find Jurassic Park 2 to be a steaming pile of garbage?

Really? You really wanna' play rhetorics and semantics with me?
I'm surprised. In a very disappointing way. o_o
have a nice day

You silly people. This is obviously a comment on societies natural and lasting bias towards the juxtaposition of classic art though the medium of contrast: night, day, good, bad, ect, which, in itself, asks its own rhetorical questions regarding the non subjective views that are held within those that don't "get" this art.
