Hardcover tends to be more durable and collectable while Paperback tends to be cheaper and more convientient. I prefer 1st edition hardcovers. What about you OT? I'd do a poll but I have one going in PC hardware right now and can only make one every 24Hrs.

I prefer the look and feel of hardcover, but I'll take either. Paperbacks are cheaper, so many times, I go with those.

hardback when it's a book I want to keep and cherish. Otherwise I want an e-book, so I can carry it in my pocket.

Paperback, lighter and more flexible. I like old beaten up ones... I enjoy reading a book I know others have read before me.

Paperback. I don't see the point of a hardcover honestly- it doubles the price and it is much less durable, you always have to worry about keeping it in good condition which is pretty hard for me since I rarely read at home.

Not if you use iBooks :P. Most of the books are hardly any cheaper than the printed copy if at all.

Paperback. It's cheaper than hardcover but if I want the book I'd get it in hardcover does't really bother me except the paper covers on the hardcover books.

It depends what I'm getting the book for.

If it is to add to my collection, I will get the hardcover. But if it is to read on the go, I will go with the paperback (well, now ebook), simply because it is easier to carry around and cheaper, and I like my books to be of a consistent size on my shelf (which, at least the mass-market paperbacks are).

For the way I treat books (toting them around, throwing them about) and for the way I read them (bending back the binding so I'm looking at only one page), paperbacks are the best. There's just something about a paperback also. It makes it seem a little more gritty. I actually stopped reading "A Tale of Two Cities" because I didn't like reading the hardback version. :(

Stone tablet.

Blue-Sky
fantastic, but pretty heavy and expensive though. ----------- Seriously though. Paperback usually. They're cheaper and usually smaller so easier to carry around. I don't like E-books in the sense that if i dropped the device or something went wrong i likely lost it. Which is more likely to happen then if i had water or fire damage that destroys my physical books. Plus i like thumbing through pages.

haha, i do/did the same when i was in highschool. we had a free period right after lunch where we were supposed to do homework or sit there quietly. i always read. i would take my book with me to lunch, otherwise id be late if i had to go to my locker after lunch. i always found it hard to get my lunch and hold my book, until i realized it fit in my back pocket. made things so much easier:P

For prose novels (which I don't read outside of educational textbooks) hardcover, but for comic books, paperbacks.

Books are soooo expensive, my pocket money is 30zł (around 6pounds, 10$) a month and books cost 30-40zł for one so I can't afford them often. This makes me buy only paperback ones and read really many ebooks.

Paperbacks, because I can trade them in for credit at the secondhand bookstores I frequent. But if it's a really good series that I plan on keeping, I'll buy hardcovers.

Right now, I'm on book 2 of The Hunger Games. They are definitely keeper.

Like you said...hardcovers are good for collecting and they are more durable, but paperbacks are more functional and easier to carry around. If I'm keeping the book, I want hardcover, if I'm just reading it for the sake of reading it (no intentions of keeping it) then I like paperbacks

paperback writer...paperback writer

Written on napkins... that is how I read the entire Harry Potter series. Seriously though, hardcovers. I feel like I am breaking the softcovers by just simply reading them. Like when I can only get a book in softcover, I read them with the front and back covers 90 degrees from each other (like a L shape) to not ruin the spine... I have always had that weird fear.

Hardcover. Paperbacks are desperate to snap shut the instant you lose your grip on them, you have to pry them open to read the words in the center by the spine, you have to hold them this way to read the left hand page and that way to read the right hand page. And the print is usually microscopic.

Gimme a nice big book any day.
