Now i've never held or shot one before, but when you see soldiers holding it in pictures, it looks LONG. I realize there are longer guns, but for an assualt rifle, that looks long.

Exactly. Plus there are plenty of modified versions of each for CQB and other situations (although most are built off the M4 platform).Thats why it's being phased out by the m4.
SeanyBoy21
Thats why it's being phased out by the m4 and hopefully the FN SCAR in the future.
SeanyBoy21
you do realize that the US probably only replace it with a US made weapon.

Since when has the M4 not been American made? And have you ever heard of the Benelli M9 or the HK MP5? Both foreign made and in use by our military.

No they won't. Delta and DEVGRU already use the HK416 (a German made weapon). Regular service members might get an American made weapon, but only because it's cheaper to get. Special Forces and others will get a selection of foriegn and domestic weapons.[QUOTE="megahaloman64"][QUOTE="SeanyBoy21"]

The M9 is the standard side arm used by our armed forces, and it's Italian made.

I mean for a standard weapon that most troops are equiped with.

Regular troops do have access to an M4 now, but the Army is looking for a replacement.enough with the american made weapons we get the point

Yeah ALOT of countries use the M16 and it's many varients.

Yep it was a common joke among the soldiers and Marines that it was manufactured by Mattel because of its mostly plastic makeup.

The M16 is AWFUL with jamming problems. It's not bad as long as you actually do maintenance on it, but take it out to the field, and it will most likely jam on you at least once. Not a bad weapon, but it has it's fair share of problems. It is somewhat long, but you can put a collapsable buttstock on it. Or you can just use an M4, which comes with that to begin with.[QUOTE="cpo335"][QUOTE="SeanyBoy21"]lol And did you see the "comic book" manual that came with it and instructed the soldiers how to actually clean the weapon (because the gov't claimed it was so good that it never had to be cleaned)? Yeah most jamming problems now-a-days are just because of poor matenience, but back then it was because of horrible design.
Compared to the AK's durability and power, the M-16 is a joke. But accuracy? M-16 is top of the line.

I don;t like how it has a forward assist button. I shouldn't have to smash the bolt into place and make sure it's locked in, it should do it on it's own. Anyways, does anyone know anything about the G36c? Now that's a weapon that I would like to learn about. I don't know much about the G36c except for the fact that it fires a 5.56 which according to my father and many other Marines, soldiers, and sailors, just isn't enough. I hope we develop a good rifle that fires a 7.62 or at least something with a little more power.
The Marines still use the M16A4, but most Marine Special Forces, such as MSOB, use the M4, but the standard troops still use the M16. IMO, I like the M16A4 alot better than the M4, and yes, I've shot them both.Thats why it's being phased out by the m4 and hopefully the FN SCAR in the future.
SeanyBoy21
Not really.... I have a 1:1 scale size M16A4 airsoft gun, so its the same size of the actual one, and it is not long at all. My dad has a actual AK47, and they are about the same length.GTA_dude
The m16 is 5 inches longer. And just because the AK is just as long, doesnt mean the m16 isn't long.

Wrong my cousin(who is a USMC infantryman) was issued an M4 along with the rest of his unit. Every infantryman in every branch has an m4 now. Only the rear echelon and support people (most of our miilitary) carry m16's.
What makes you like the m16 better?

What the hell are you talking about? I was a Rifleman in the Marine Corps for 4 years, and the ONLY time I was issued an M4 was when I was a Fire Team Leader. So no, not every infantrymen in every branch has an M4. ESPECIALLY in the Marine Corps. Hell, you'll see squad leaders with M16s sometimes. The line companies only get allotted a certain amount, and most are taken by the officers/Staff NCO's. The rest trickle down to the Squad Leaders, and if you're lucky, the fire team leaders. Fact: the majority of the Marine Corps still uses the M16. Hell, there's more M249s than there is M4s.The M4 is really just an updated M16(same platform) that is not quite as accurate, is better in CQC, jams less, and i think it shoots faster. I think the M4/16 was supposed to be replaced with the XM8, which was made by the same company that made the G36. However, they canceled that project, and as of now, the M4/M16 is not being replaced.ieatnoobs18
its because its the g36 wihout the problems with it even fixed. I'm glad the Us military didin't go through with it.
