Thats why it's being phased out by the m4 and hopefully the FN SCAR in the future.

SeanyBoy21

you do realize that the US probably only replace it with a US made weapon.

Since when has the M4 not been American made? And have you ever heard of the Benelli M9 or the HK MP5? Both foreign made and in use by our military.

both benellie and HK have plants in the US. Theyre foreign designed, but domestically manufactured. So long as it employs American workers to manufacture, the US military doesnt really care where the origin of a product is

hmm... hard to say, over here in Denmark we do have similar models to the m16 models, and the m4.

The m16 was as long as they were because of the lessons learned in 22w and Korea, longer barrel = precision, or atleas it was like that back then (it is not alwaysthe case in modern builds).

I dont think anyone ever liked the m16s, when I was conscripted, most of the people moaned about it, it was too light, it did not "feel" like a real gun, heck the kick of them were about the same as a .22 rifle, nevermind how effective it was, it just diddnt "feel" right for the troops.

The m4s still feels like toys, but the shorter barrel males it a better fir for urban warfare (altho not by alot). I do understand the soldiers, we went from the HK G3, to the "squirtgun" as we used to call it...

I do think the 5.56 native rifles gets the boot tho, they proves horribly inefficientat Urban Warfare, and as far as I know theywere not a joy to use in Jubgles either.

NATO are looking into a new Caliber round for the newer generations of rifles, namely a 6.8mm (they were testing posible candidates when I was in).

I personally disagree with your statement about the M16 and M4 being too light and feeling like toys. Light weapons are great, especially when you have 50lbs of other equipment you are lugging around. I do agree tih you about the 5.56 though.

there really is no reason to use them with the a3's and a4's

megahaloman64

No one really ever used the A3's Only SEAL's and SeeBee's really used them.

i know, most standard troops only fire their rifles on semi auto.

As far as I know, no service in the US Armed Forces uses the M16A3.

[QUOTE="DarkPrinceXC"] 1/5. Also, yes, you were correct. Pretty much nobody uses the M16A2. Most of that crap goes to the MCRDs, and the SOIs, although I know a lot of SOI classes use the M16A4s now.DarkPrinceXC

Did you go to basic at PI or Pendleton?

My cousin is either in 1/7 or 2/7, I can't really remember.

Ahh, I don't know anyone from either of those units. I was at MCRD San Diego.

enough with the american made weapons we get the point

cpo335

You know, some other nations use America's weapons, too.

Canada will take your old M-16s.
