Has God a gender

In my religious catholic education i always mentally see God as a He Today in a restaurant conversation whit this girl that embrace the feminist persuasion she told me the interesting theory that The god we adore might be a goddess I try to make a defense of my male god but she (i must confess ) present me whit some strong opinions .I will like to listen to your opinions so the next time i meet her i can have strong arguments /BTW the girl is gorgeous and i get quit dumb near a beautiful intelligent woman :oops: )

Stupid Answer: God made enough water to create a flood that covered the entire earth. Only women cry that much, so god is obviously a woman.

Real Answer: Assuming that god is real (I'm not exactly sure if he is myself), he's not an entity of our characteristics. He would be a being beyond our comprehension, a being with motives and characteristics beyond our imagining, so it would be stupid to try and apply earthly traits to him.

Sometimes its hard to fathom a god for me, so I try to avoid thinking about it too much and trying to accept it untill there is definate proof of where we all came from >_>

Regardless, I'd have to say he/she doesn't really have a gender, or he/she has one but not of human like orgin. I usually refer to god as a he though.

I'm not a Christian myself, but it's in the first damn book of the Bible that both man and woman were created in the likeness of God. Which would mean he's...both? Or neither.

I think that why most refer to God as "He" is because of habit and its much easier then saying "He/She/It" and "God" all the time as that wouldn't be proper english anyways.

You don't always say the persons name when your refer to that person do you? You use he/she/they, etc. Same with God.

Can we also point out that during those times and pretty much for the next 1800 years after women were considered property or livestock and had very few rights? I think it would be odvious that a religion that birthed during that culture saw god as a man because it was odvious that during that time most saw women inferior compared to men, and were treated that way.
