I've just found out that it's apparently a Canadian and American thing yet no one I know has done such a thing. It's basically the lazy way of boiling water but it seems so wrong I don't want to try.

Of course I've done it. If I want to heat up a cup of coffee, I'm essentially microwaving water, and it's a good way to heat up water for mixes. I never expected someone to think it was odd or "wrong".
Yes. Sometimes I just want a warm to hot glass of water when it's the cold season. 4myAmuzumamentwhat the
random thought, i think i read somewhere that it is actually more dangerous to microwave water than to boil it.
something about, in the microwave the water doesnt boil, just gets superheated. so it could be extremely hot, but you wouldnt be able to judge it.
whereas on the stove it boils and you can tell its done.
something like that.
Yes, because boiling a kettle of water on the stove is such an immense act and demands extreme physical fitness and determination. Yeah, I usually heat it because it heats up faster. Well at least it used to, now that we have an induction stove I use that.sounds like the lazy and slobbish thing to do

Yeah it works well. However, the water can get super heated and not actually show like it boils and then when you move the water it explodes.
I've heard about this from Mythbusters.Yeah it works well. However, the water can get super heated and not actually show like it boils and then when you move the water it explodes.

It's actually pretty hard to replicate. basically the dish has to be undisturbed and without significant flaws. So a glass dish will be more likely for this to happen.
Good use of H2O in the microwave; small cup of water when re-heating pizza or pretty much anything that is bready. Helps retain moisture in the food, making it less dry.

yes thats true, works well with tortillas too, also you have to put the bread/tortillas inside of a plastic bag so they retain maximum moist. My whole family is big on Microwave. I do MW water all the time, hot for coffee, just some seconds to make it less cold ( I live in cold weather ), I think its pretty normal. That superheat thing has never been an issue, if you normally use a mw oven you know its timings so you know how much time for whatkind of food and how hot itll be. Another thought. Chocolate with water WTF! thats gross, why dont you people use milk with it...Eeewwww... I prefer milk over water for hot chocolate. It's creamier that way!i do it when i make hot chocolate.

huh, learn something new everyday.
i dont actually make hot cocoa often, always just default to water. ive had it with milk a couple times, but didnt taste too much a diffrence.
Yeah, I have. Mostly, I'll get it really hot in the microwave in a cup so I can pour it into a cup o' noodles or something. Much quicker.

Yeah...just try making some of the powdered hot choclate with milk and see how that works out.
Shit won't even mix.
Good to see so far nobody fell into sharing that phony new age science about microwaved water killing plants. Anyhow, microwave is the lazy way to make things, I always used to use microwave from making microwave popcorn, burritos, and whatnot. In more recent years I've taken to cooking things in the oven, my microwave burritos stay crispy and are nice and hot, instead of that limp outcome of microwaving things, I also find stove-top cooked popcorn to be much better, pizzas are better out of the oven. I have a stove-top kettle for heating water and I prefer that over microwaving water for tea and those instant cappuccinos. I reheat my leftovers in the oven. Still use a microwave though for things like making instant noodles that are designed to be cooked in microwave (where using boiling water doesn't work).lamprey263A friend once suggested that we microwave a frozen pizza, said friend didn't see that slap coming.
