Yeah...just try making some of the powdered hot choclate with milk and see how that works out.

Shit won't even mix.

not really sure what you are doing wrong. Always works for me.

It doesn't mix. The powder will stay on the top and not mix.

It's actually the suggested way to TEST a microwave to see if it's faulty or not.

Yes, it gets the water hot quickly, so it takes way less time to boil.

Have done it a couple times when a baking recipe calls for boiling water and I forgot to get it started earlier on. It also works nicely for tea when there isn't a coil kettle or other element kettle around.

I have a boiling water dispenser, I dont have to boil my water unless I have to keep it at a consistent temperature if I'm cooking pastas and such.

You just have to be careful not to dump something into superheated water, and then it instantly starts to vaoprize right into your face. It's the same reason why, in the chemistry lab, you always have a stir bar or boiling stone. You need a rough surface for the gas to create bubbles on, then escape the liquid.

Instant oatmeal, instant grits, instant cream of wheat, tea, instant coffee, Ramen noodles, etc. I could go on forever. :|

If you want me to waste time, dishes, and electricity by letting it sit on the stove for more then twice the time for no good reason then I don't even.

I never knew people were "2 kewl 2 use microwaves".

What's next? "OMG you guys use toasters and toaster ovens? How lazy because I use the oven or throw it on a pan!!"

Good use of H2O in the microwave; small cup of water when re-heating pizza or pretty much anything that is bready. Helps retain moisture in the food, making it less dry.

Being dry is the least of your problems when reheating pizza, it gets so soggy.

random thought, i think i read somewhere that it is actually more dangerous to microwave water than to boil it.

something about, in the microwave the water doesnt boil, just gets superheated. so it could be extremely hot, but you wouldnt be able to judge it.

whereas on the stove it boils and you can tell its done.

something like that.

konvikt_17

I don't know. I saw on ("modern marvels") a portion where they were talking about how those real fast ovens that places like subway have work and they contrasted it to how a microwave works. If I remember correctly, microwave ovens work by sending microwaves into the food causing the water molecules inside the food to move around quickly generating heat and cooking the food from the center of the food.
