Have you ever seen or experienced racism?

@blackballs: large migrant groups like Indians and Jamaicans did gravitate into cliquey racially divided groups in secondary school, it’s worth pointing out, not primary school. That’s just an observation from inner city UK in a mid 90’s Comprehensive school, I can’t speak about anyone else’s experience.

I found it profoundly ugly and I was surprised and still am really. That is racism.

Oh and not liking Islam is basically racism.

it depends on a persons definition however all it takes is to walk into any mixed raced high school lunch room and you will see most people self segregate and many would consider that racist.

That is probably from the American perspective, not all countries are the same way. In my country regardless of skin color or race, we're extremely integrated. It's a non issue. Again, the US is a pretty bizzarly racist country as it's a big issue.

Got a source to back that up? There’s a difference between hating a belief system and the general populace who believe in such system.

It all amounts to the same thing of applying some kind of value to a stranger you have decided is true about them.

Cliquey racial groups in secondary school (elementary in the US) are a sad indication of western societies failure to successfully integrate migrant populations into society where they tend to remain within the migrant social groups and sometimes never even learning the language in older migrants.

I'm not claiming to have the answer to this but in primary school there were at least 5-10 Indian/Pakistanis and 3-4 west-indian/caribbeans in classes of about 30 and all the various national holidays were recognised like Diwali etc. Just to make everyone feel included and the migrant kids feel more comfortable and accepted and I don't remember anyone not integrating with other races... until secondary school where no religious holidays were recognised if I recall. It was the worst school ever btw but hey, cutbacks for the poor since Thatcher. The science lab roof was still leaking when I left. FYI it was bulldozed-is retirement flats now.

You are probably thinking about the media representation of Islam anyway, which dare I say it, is slightly sensationalistic? I think most Muslims are not zealots and the niqab (walking post box women with slits to look out) or a minority and I've only ever seen a few.

You also fail to understand Islamic culture if you would openly declare yourself Islamaphobic on a message board as you clearly take issue with something you don't understand about how other cultures operate and the various forms of Islam in the world.

Okay first off, when did I say I had a problem with Islam? I said I had differences I'm a Buddhist so of course we are not the same religion, doesn't mean I hate the religion or anything. I said that hating Islam is not racism, but Islamaphobic, I never said I was Islamabophic, or did I in my post? You made a massive paragraph of something that I never said.

Because I'm a buddhist it doesn't mean if someone accuses me of racism I have to sit down and take the stupid accusation as a dumbass. @blackballs: just general Buddhism then. I used to study Mahayana Buddhism and stil feel it is a good religion but also probably the most accepting of other religions.

So you ‘might’ be intollerent of other religions which would separate you from all the other Buddhists who don’t oppose any other religion, historically...

Yes, I have witnessed it. Had a roommate who was a diehard racist. He'd watch these racist scenes in movies and then laugh at them. Like "Dude you think hanging black people is funny?"

He has since changed his ways, but at the expense of being a born-again Christian, which ironically has not changed how I feel about him (see below).

People generally lump it together.

If I say that I hate Judaism, people are going to think I am an anti-Semite; they will associate me with Nazis. If I say I hate Islam, people are going to think I hate brown-skinned people; they'll think of me as a Trump-voting redneck scared of outsiders.

While I am not actively hostile (or open) about my hatred of religion, I generally keep that to myself because all it takes is one sensitive person to catch me saying how much I hate Israel or how I think that we should bomb the shit out of Islamic theocracies (I don't mean either of those things, btw...hyperbole FTW) for them to define me as a bigot, and then tell all their friends that.

Adding on from what I said. I have also seen racism. Having been to a secondary school predominately white, I had friends and people I knew who were mostly white make jokes about Pakistanis and jews. Being Chinese, I used to wonder why were people so cruel and make fun about other races. I even had thoughts whether some of my friends or people I knew were racist behind my back.

I went to a Sixth Form College that has a high ratio of Asians (Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Saudis). I knew people in my secondary school chose a different college as they don't like Asians... due to unexplained reasons.

I live in an area that is well known for segregation. One scenario where I saw segregation was in a supermarket, on a busy day, the tills that had Asian staff have fewer queues than others. I saw this happen in Morrisons and Asda.

There used to be a school in my town where one school was Asian and the other was White. Both schools were combined together in order to improve integration between 2 races.

Plenty of it online and when I was younger; kids can be real shits. Rarely see or experience it in person these days; more often from older folk than anyone else.
