Yes, actually I have thought about that. I want to be remembered...but not as the guy who killed a bunch of innocent people in a killing spree. I hope I'm able to make a breakthrough discovery or invention in the realm of chemistry/chem engineering...though the odds of that are slim, at the very best.
I'll probably be remembered in OT, but that doesn't count... >_>THE_DRUGGIEwe'll always remember you druggie :)

Yes. No matter how hard you try, you just won't forget.
I honestly wonder why people have some kind of subliminal fascination with fame. It's probably latent social desire. Everyone has got to be the alpha male. I see nothing usefull about fame, or attention from the masses at all.CaptHawkeyeI refer to it as ego stroking, personally.
2012 is almost upon us! The armageddon is near! If you wish to be remembered, it will have to be in the next 5 years! Prepare for Doomsday!Greedo_What
Ok then. We better start preparing! Teh meteorz is coming!! :o
Sometimes. But it's not exactly a passion for me. I'd be happy enough if I simply satisfy those who partake in my art during my lifetime.pianist
Do you teach piano?

Fame is, for many people, a means of justifying hard work. It feels good when your work is appreciated, and given that humans seek pleasure, it should come as no surprise that many people also seek fame. Those who do not tend to focus more on the negative aspect of fame, or hold the opinion that what strangers think is of no relevance in their lives.
Then of course, there's money. If you're famous, you'll often become rich too. A disturbing number of people are driven to produce solely for wealth... and they'll do whatever it takes to satiate the mob so that people will buy their junk. Needless to say, I'm not much of a fan of that philosophy, especially with respect to art.
Never. Because at some point, no matter what, I'll be forgotten regardless of how famous I was. I live for the day, not the distant future in which I am a corpse and wish to be remembered...Fortier
I agree to an extent, because fame isn't all about being remembered. It's as much about leaving something significant to benefit humanity or the world as it is being remembered. In fact, being remembered is merely a side effect of leaving something significant to benefit humanity. Thus, what you do in your life is what really matters, not who remembers what you did.
Of course, you can become famous doing something detrimental for humanity or the world, too. But I should hope you wouldn't want that sort of fame, either in life or in death.:P

Teaching is my primary profession, but I suspect if I were remembered it would be for performance or composition. Composition is the most likely - throughout Western music history, it has always been the composers who stand the test of time.

That's quite true, but should I ever be remembered for making such a grand impact on humanity, I still wouldn't care too much about being remembered, just the satisfaction of helping others as much as I could...so basically, I completely agree with you, making this post almost entirely irrelevant. :P
