I have 15,514 songs at the moment. I haven't listened to them all, but the joy of it is that every time I open my media player there's usually something new to listen to.

I vet one or two tracks from every album I download if I am not too familiar with the artist. I'm sure that leaves at least a quarter of my collection unlistened to as yet, but at least I know I have something to look forward to when I do. Current music collection is at about 130 gigs.

So that when strangers on the subway glance at your iPod, they'll think that you like cool music. It's all about street cred.

I think it's obvious that some here have obtained their large collection by dark and dastardly ways. Reasons may range from "I thought I might like it" to "because it's there."

If a fan of jazz, world music, or classical recordings, the repertoire is so great, it is easy to get ahead of yourself and download more than you can practically listen to in an immediate time frame, thus you store them and listen to/vet them at your leisure.

Then they can bring their own music. I'm sure as hell not paying for music I don't like just so my friend can listen to it too. My friend does that, and it makes me sick. He has Hannah Montanna, Hilary Duff, Katy Perry, and the Jonas Brothers on his iPod so "girls can listen to it." As for the question, yes I've listened to every song in my library at least 20 times each (except Money Made on Black Ice, what a horrible song.) I don't have that many songs, but what I do have, I like.
