In any case, that "rule" has to stop working at some point.

I mean, if we apply the "half plus seven" rule to a guy who is 70, that pairs the 70 year old guy with a woman who is 42.

But that's a pretty big difference. If it's okay for a 70 year old man to date a woman who is barely in her 40s, then I don't see a substantial difference between that and a man who is dating a woman who is only 35.

True. But if you care so much about a relationship, presumably you'd be willing to do what's necessary to ensure the relationship survives (in this case abstaining from sex until both partners are of legal age). Being in jail makes it difficult to continue the relationship.

It's probably not a concern anyways. The chances of this relationship lasting until he's 18 are marginal at best.

THe thing is, appearances are often as important as the truth. Whether or not they are actually having sex may not be as important as whether or not they are giving the impression that they could be in a sexual relationship.

It's like, I will give a coworker a ride home...but not if she's younger than 18. What the hell is gonna happen if I give a pretty 15 year old employee a ride home, then her paranoid crazy-ass dad sees her getting out of the car and decides to smack her around until she tells him who she was ****ing? Next thing I know I've got the cops knocking on my door and dragging me down to the ****ing police station, all because I tried to help someone out by giving them a ride to work.

Same principle. The TC might not be having sex with the girl, but people are gonna ASSUME that he is. And if having sex with her is illegal, assumptions are more than enough.

For conviction? I sure hope not... and a lot of this would depend on what sort of person he is. No one would have suspected that I'd be having sex at age 18, even if I was dating a 15 year old. And they'd be right. It'd just not who I am. But if the OP has a track record of sleazy or belligerent behaviour, you're probably right. The girl's parents will become suspicious quickly.

Still don't think that he could be convicted or arrested on circumstantial grounds, though.

Maybe not convicted, but a trial would be bad enough. Who wants to go through that?

And god forbid that his little friends egg him on with comments like "what, you still haven't had sex with her yet? What are you, gay At which point a stupid lie brought up out of peer pressure turns into one of the guys' friends testifying under oath, "yes, he had sex with her. He told me so himself."

In any case, I'm not suggesting that this **** happens all the time, but I am not about to doubt that it doesn't happen.

And yeah, if I had a daughter who was old enough to want to date boys, then I'd assume that she's ****ing her boyfriend.

Today's generation? Break out the chastity belts parents, it's a different world out there. I was watching a ****ing 40s romance flick earlier. Little individual piano keys in the score to add flavor to the innocent looks the man and woman sitting on the bench on the porch were making. He was leading up to saying he liked her in true classical form. This was brought on by the current culture at the time. Where is it at now? Not needing parental consent to put children on birth control in middle school. Middle school.

Key point is that you were watching a MOVIE. Unless it was a documentary, my point still stands. Boys and girls date each other because they want to ****. It's just that in the 'good ol days', daddy would force the dude to marry his daughter under threat of getting shot, or take his daughter to have a back-alley abortion and then pretend like the whole thing never happened.
