...or not if you like living in ignorant bliss

If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.

Guess you're not going to like the PS4 either then since it's going to have almost all the same extra crap.

I don't like the name though. When I hear "Xbox one" I kinda think of the original xbox.

Have to disagree with you, brother. It's a big cash grab and a sad attempt to woo us twenty-something year olds. They've forgotten who made them great: Gamers.

I don't think they have at all. The point of the conference was just to announce, show and give the broad vision. MS chose to get the extra fluff stuff out of the way and will focus (supposedly) completely on games at E3. Sony is chosing to show that later. Either way, both companies will strive to be all-in-one centers of the living room whether we like it or not. By the time E3 rolls around, nobody is going to remember either unveiling anyway. Both will look amazing.

They have because they focused on a TV component that should be nothing more than a tertiary plus. They've gone against ALL consumer feedback and are implementing a used game fee AND requiring an internet connection.

Sony isn't striving to be a multimedia all-in-one. Everything from their reveal was mostly about games. Nor are they FORCING me to have an internet connection to play. The new Xbox FORCES you to have an internet connection to register your games and will make you reconnect every 24 hours.

I'm sorry, but I will NEVER support a company that adds a fee in order to let me play a SINGLEPLAYER game. Never.

Sony specifically said in their presser that they ARE striving to be an all in one entertainment center. They just didn't dwell on it. As for the internet connection, not only do we not know whether or not Sony will do the same, what percentage of people that buy these new consoles wouldn't have them hooked up the the internet anyway? I can't imagine it would be more than 1-2%.

I don't think Microsoft is taking the game thing seriously. They're just putting out a new system b/c they kinda have to now and are hoping that multiplats and XBL will rake in as much cash this gen as last.

I'll stick with PC.

Why is this thread system wars?

We do know, Pirate. They've specifically said they are going to be tolerant of connection losses, but they have unequivocally said that you need an internet connection for the Xbox One. GameSpot even has a Q&A that proves it, which I will link with an edit.

Sony won't do the same, they've already said.

It doesn't matter, Pirate. I travel with my consoles sometimes. Why should I have to connect it to the internet if I just want to play a single-player game?

That would also entail connecting a bunch of XBOXes to a network just to have a LAN party, wouldn't it?

But IIRC, they decided against the always online req

Xbox One will block used games, will be weaker with respect to the RAM and the GPU which is 50% weaker than the PS4 GPU, will require an internet connection every 24 hours and will seem to be catered to non-gamers in general.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-spec-analysis-xbox-one

Kinect is also stupid, I don't want to sound like a lunatic talking to myself to move sh*t on screen, I can use the controller. And Kinect no matter how accurate will never be able to replace a controller in any meaningful way. You can't just make a gun with your hand like a little kid and start aiming at enemies on screen.

PS4 is better so far, and it's not even up for debate.

some of those thinks seem cool. But I think I'de probably still just turn the Xbox off and watch tv, changing the channels using my cable remote, instead of using the console to watch tv and telling it what station to put on.

I know that we know MS is doing it. I said we don't know how connected the PS4 will have to be. And I completely agree that it's silly to have to be connected once per day even to play a single player game. I just think the issue is greatly overblown for 95+% of the people who will be purchasing either console.

I would wager the PS4 won't. People love their console for the ability to play games without a fee. Hell, I even have a recurring one year subscription for PS+ because I support Sony in what they're doing.

Now, I've never been a Playstation guy. I bought their console to play the exclusives. But this gen, I might have to change simply because of principle.

I don't want these ridiculous restraints on the way I play.

We shouldn't. SimCity legitimately had to always be connected. With the Xone, presumably once it's connected once for that day/cycle, it doesn't matter if your connection goes down while playing.

Wow seriously? This is looking more and more like a PC gen for me.* *Assuming those stats are legit, where did you find them?

But those states don't take into account THE CLOUD which seems to be what MS keeps talking about.

At least it's nice that consoles are able to get the same graphics as last years PC's. ;D

We're going to have CONSTANT messes like the one we had with SimCity. I'm sorry, but I'm not touching the Xbox One.

Pirate700

We shouldn't. SimCity legitimately had to always be connected. With the Xone, presumably once it's connected once for that day/cycle, it doesn't matter if your connection goes down while playing.

Sim City really didn't need the always online requirement

Microstuttering only happens on systems that SLI/Crossfire-enabled, and is still incredibly rare.
Driver updates constantly improve performance. I don't see the issue
You can get a new card as soon as the next generation begins and be set for the next 3-4 years.

smh

enjoy your sub-HD 20fps nonsense

how would that even work? How could you offload physics and AI processing without being constantly connected to the net? Would a dev have to program a game to work online and offline? Would some games only work online?
