Here's why Heath Ledger's The Joker is awesome.

Whats so bad about the list? Those are all terrific villains, are you saying that Klaus Kinski was not a good villain in Aguirre, the wrath of god? Patrick Bateman is more of a anti hero I guess, but he does kill innocent people so I would call him a villain even if he is the main character. Also the hitcher may not be a great movie, but Rutger Hauer was great in it like he usually is.

Rutger Hauer is a good villain, but nothing memorable. I wouldn't put him on my list, at least. I realize it's your list, it's just some of the villains on your list aren't the greatest performances (in my opinion, of course).

Well, I haven't seen all the classics and such (A Clockwork Orange, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, etc) but Ledger's performance as The Joker is above and beyond all the movies THAT I HAVE seen. Its so weird how he looks and seems so much NOT like Heath, if I had just got the movie, unaware of the actors in it, I would've never in a million years figured out that it was Heath Ledger. His voice is so raspy sounding, his laugh is demented, and he's sick & twisted. I think too, that it wasn't Heath Ledger, but the character The Joker took over completely (yeah someone already said something like this). The Dark Knight is my favorite movie ever made, and besides 300, nothing comes close to being as great. The Joker stole the spotlight in this movie too.300DarkKnights

You are right about Bateman, so I can understand him not tecnically being a villain. I still stick by Rutger Hauer though, people talk about Heath being great because he was so psychotic in Dark Knight well for me that is why John Ryder was a great villain. he has no reason or remorse, he just kills. He is pretty similar to the joker in a way, and Hauer was also fantastic in Blade Runner as Roy Batty, he brought a sense of humanity and purpose to the character that made him more than just a evil robot.

I'm not saying that.

I got the impression he took a lot of inspiration from Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector, just the whole psychtic killer who's in control them. But Hannibal was by far better acted and a better character, not to say that Heath Ledger did a bad job, he definitely deserved the Oscar.
