I don't want to be filled with it, but it seems almost everything uses it nowadays. So do you guys know anything that doesn't have it outside of fresh fruits and vegetables? Also do you do spend any time thinking about the fact that pretty much everything has HFCS nowadays, and do you try to limit yourself on how much you consume?

Snapple switched off it a couple years back... Anyway, is it actually any worse than sucrose/fructose? I've heard it's not.

Yes I do. Meat from the butcher probably doesn't,. I usually don't see any in the grocery stores that are cut there. Pastas, sauces, cereals. HFCS is mostly in the cheap stuff. Most dairy I drink doesn't have it on the labels. Non-hormone raised cows.

I read an article about it. Basically, the difference is that one HFSC molecule is 2.0 times that of a sucrose/fructose molecule.

I heard there is really only like 3 or 4 manufacturers of all the major food brands in the USA. Everything is made from corn lol. I could be wrong though, never really looked too far int it outside of a few documentaries. Also the sanitation of meat production/processing is really gross.

Not really. There both high calorie low nutritious food. One should avoid heavy consumption of either but I dont believe that its any worse for you than sugar.

A lot of companies are taking notice of the backlash and backing off HFS. It won't be long before they replace it with a new and improved unhealthy cheap option.

Yeah, basically everything is made from corn because the Government subsidizes it so heavily. :P

Considering 1 molecule of sucrose is composed of 1 molecule of glucose plus 1 molecule of fructose together, that sounds hard to believe.

Costco started carrying imported sugarcane Coke from Mexico years back, I believe just for Passover because I guess it adheres to kosher dietary restrictions for Jewish people while the HFCS doesn't (don't know why, but...), anyhow I think it became a hit because they always carry sugarcane Coke and Pepsi now, I think the Coke is still imported from Mexico but the Pepsi is domestically produced I believe. One QFC grocery store in my area was the only store I've been to where they separated HFCS and sugar sweetened sodas, before that when I used to work at the grocery store the only sugar soda was in the organic section and it was just basically overpriced ginger ale.

Bottom line is that sucrose is a natural sugar and high fructose corn syrup is not. I don't want fake crap in my body personally.

Dr. Pepper is making it with both HFCS and real sugar. The real sugar version even has throwback can designs that have been used over the years.

Yes. Our forefathers (foremothers?) used to call it "cooking." It's possible to avoid it when eating at home, so long as you're willing to do the work. Most people aren't.

And all diet drinks don't use HFC by default:P

It's not just in candy and soda, it's in the vast majority of boxed/man made foods. So unless your trying to avoid it, chances are your consuming it everyday. I think it's best to avoid boxed foods completely if possible or anything with alot of words you can barely pronounce on the back of the package. Google some of the ingredients. I just learned about a new one called "L Cysterine" which is extracted from the Hair of humans, ducks and pigs and is used to speed up the production of breads.

Best bet, cook your own food and cut the snacks and the usual juices. Ocean Spray claims not to use it but their drinks are too sweet to me, you'll have to check for yourself on that. I'd say that I do pretty well in not consuming HFCS.

i dont eat out much and i dont eat prepackaged foods often so it is not in my everyday consuming habits, and i am not looking to avoid it. most of my HFCS comes in rum and coke form, but aside from that it is rarely in my diet.

Do you eat any at all? Point is, unless you're actively trying to avoid it then you're probably consuming HFCS. You may not even realize it. The s*** is in just about every goddamn thing on the market.

The way I see it, thereare really only two kinds of food. Fresh and packaged. Packaged (even the self-proclaimed 'healthy stuff') is always going to have crap in it thats bad for you whether its HFCS or sodium or whatever. For my wife and I, we take the time to cook (usually) so we know what we are eating, and we make a bit extra to take to work the following day for lunch. Yes, at times we don't feel like or don't have the time to prepare our own food, so we go with packaged stuff. Is it healthy? Nope, but as they say, everything in moderation.

I'm with surreal on this, I rarely eat out and rarely ever eat processed foods ie) bread, hamburger helper, you know, packaged foods. You don't have to actively try to avoid it. If you eat the proper foods (meats, veggies, grains) then you'll hardly ever run into HFCS. Not hard to do really.

I read an article about it. Basically, the difference is that one HFSC molecule is 2.0 times that of a sucrose/fructose molecule.

Considering 1 molecule of sucrose is composed of 1 molecule of glucose plus 1 molecule of fructose together, that sounds hard to believe.

How does that make it hard to believe? The article stated it was simply double the individual contents. I forgot most of the details, but I remember that it takes longer to digest compared to table sugar because of the increased fructose.

Here's a study by Princeton University about HFCS.
