I like high school, but thats because I'm planning to be in a more academic occupation (scientist.) For others, I don't know (ie: a plumber)

I gladly block out high school (university is great), but work is the real prision. 40+ hours doing something you probably won't like for 25-life. Great times!

70% of undergraduates change their major at least once during college. Some universities report that their students change their majors on an average of 3 times before graduating.

It's unrealistic to think that high school students can know what they want to become.

(These are statistics from American universities, just in case you're talking about another nation)

High school isn't that bad.. you'll realise how great it really is once you enter the workforce and have no free time anymore.

I really doubt you really spent all your highschool years thinking about what you wanted to become. You wake up you go to your classes you do you h/w you sleep then repeat. From my point of view thats where most highschool students mind is set. I really think the reason why they change their major is because in colleges they actually learn their major and turns out that thier major is not what they really expected. And thats what i meant the government should spend more time on what students want to really become, not all the p.e, foods class.. stuff.

High school is important to learn basic information needed in life. In all honesty, most of what is learned in high school is used later.

It is also part of the time that goes to growing in maturity and as an individual. While the growth is somewhat more obvious in college, high school does provide important lessons not just in course work.

I have a lot of great memories from high school. Some days I wish I was back there. Try to enjoy the time you have, for it will not last as long as you would have wished later.

Schooling isn't all about becoming a certain thing, or entering a certain field. For me, it's about learning. I love the university setting because of the unique opportunities to learn that I will most likely not find again. There are some people I know who only care about their future careers, but only focusing on the goal of your life will culminate in a lonely grave.

It depends on the classes you take.

If you get stuck with CP or below, you might as well stay home. In my experience, very little ever happens below the honors level. Coursework is redundant and usually simple enough to be done without the aid of the incompetent fool you are likely to have as a teacher.

In highschool you are supposed to gather knowledge that will help you in the rest of your life. I know some people that didn't go to highschool and they don't even know the most basic and simple things. Sometimes those people don't know what the hell they are talking about. That really makes me glad that I went to highschool.

Yeah, I'd mostly ditch and make trouble for some teachers, but free ( bad ) food and hanging out with people was good.
Plus sometimes you get really great teachers.
I mostly saw it as a waste of time though, and I felt I wasn't learning what I needed to learn.

4 years is a joke. only two years you learn things are freshman and junior years. sophomore year is just a repeat of freshman year. senior year is absurd seeing as you already have all your credits.. but ya it will all pay out in the end.

Yes, but you need a Highschool diploma.

But the one cool thing about being a teenager is that you have more free time than an adult, but are allowed more responsibilty than a young child.

There are a lot of jobs necessary for the basic functioning of society for which one does not need to attend higher education. It is important not to trivialize such jobs.

Middle school was the real waste; 3 years of being taught crap that you will "learn" again in HS.

If the schools didn't BS around and give the kids off all the time then they could get them out of their in 2-3 years.

If I didn't do as well as I did in high school I wouldn't have a full ride through college. If I didn't have a full ride through college then I'd be in debt on graduation which would make going to graduate school more difficult. For me, high school was important in that respect. Not to mention I was smarter leaving high school than entering.

most of the classes are completely useless to the majority of enrolled students. I don't need to learn AP calculus, because I'll never use it in a real life situation. High school could have been more productive if they taught students the things they NEED to know.

In Europe that is how it mostly is, but high Schools now a days only prepare those who are on the college track to succeed in life. So in part, it is a waste of time for those who have no desire to continue their education.

I disagree. I have actually used a fair amount of what I learned in high school.

The exact things learned may not apply 100%, but usually there are components that are useful indeed. High school does teach things that are needed. At least mine did.
