Yeah, its such a waste of time... Hope you kids that agree with the OP enjoy flipping burgers at McDumpsters or love to greet people and stock shelves at Walmart. While I do believe that the way our school system in America works is complete crap, I do know that without any kind of technical skill or training your probably going to be competing with all the sweet illegals we have here. Choose to accel and succeed, not to lay down and give up.

8 hours everyday except weekends for 4 years with only about maybe 2 months and a half break.

I think highschool should be a school where you only learn what you want to become and post secondary is the school where you actually become what you want to be which means if you want to keep learning then you can go to post secondary but if you think you are good enough then you dont have to go to post secondary?

or maybe only make high school 2 years then you can go to college or university?

anyone else agree or do you think im wrong?

kato_

I think you are wrong because you can't plan anything in life (well I can't say anything but a majority of things.) espcially what you want to do when you get out of high school. I think 4 years is sufficient, I think that if it was cut to two years you would be way too immature and inexperienced to go out in the real world.

The only reason I liked highschool was the social aspect of it. All I did was party in highschool. I skipped way too much, and looking back on it, wasn't a very good decision. That being said, I'd do it all again exactly the same way I did it.

I'm a junior right now, and so far high school has both the greatest and most depressing moments. It's full of extremities.

I dunno about you, but I loved high school. Learned a good bit, had a great time and made tons of friends. No bills, no mortgage payment, no 7-5 job, high school was a vacation and I miss it sometimes.

i wouldn't say it's a waste of life, but it's definately not "the best 4 years of your life" like some people want you to think. far from it, in fact.

Middle school was the real waste; 3 years of being taught crap that you will "learn" again in HS.

If the schools didn't BS around and give the kids off all the time then they could get them out of their in 2-3 years.

Well some of high school is a waste, and some isn't.

What's making me angry is that during my senior year I need 7 freaking classes when I only need 3. I want 2 other electives for a total of 5, but the other ones I have no interest in and they won' t help me in my career.

Well what do you want? To enter the real world in amaze of the creulty? Highschools prepares you and lets you experience portion of life itself before truly entering it.

Yes, it is a waste of life. Here's a few of my grievances...

  • You're forced into classes with chosen teachers and when to take the class.
  • You're forced to take certain classes , such as Gov/Econ (at least here in California) with unjustified explanations why you're forced to.
  • It's not explained exactly how each class will benefit your life.
  • No explanation for how certain jobs can prepare for possible careers, rather they expect you to figure it out on your own through research.
  • Doesn't check how well teachers are doing their job ( I swear, I've had teachers you would pass out papers and sit at their computers the whole time as everyone just talked)
  • The system doesn't recognise different proffered learning environments, rather it assumes everyone learns the same way, and rewards those who succeed out of unjustified reasons.
  • You can't take a test out of a class to prove you know the information, rather you have to sit through a whole semester regardless.

I don't know about you guys, but those reasons just ticked me off and I find it ridiculous how everyone just sits around not doing anything about it or at least questioning it. Because education here in California JUST SUCKS at the moment. Not to mention we're one of the least funded school systems out of all the states. It's ridiculous.

I don't feel like high school really did a lot for me personally. It would have been nice ot study things I was actually interested in. I live in a small town, so there isn't really much to do, and I never got into the social aspect of high school. It just seemed so lame.

I enjoy college a bit more, but I still wish it were a bit easier to take classes I feel actually apply to me. But luckily I now have a bit more power when it comes to that.

School isn't all about the education, but it is also about the experiences, and the friends you make, and the extra things you can do that make you who you are.

Try being home-schooled for your whole life, and so it gives you little to no social skills, thus keeping unmotivated to go outside and meet new people. There's your ticket to becoming a hermit. Unless you like being invisible to the public eye as a hermit, high school (And any school in general) provides a big impact on your life.

I really don't mind high school at all. I kind of like it actually. Sure, all the drama that comes with it sucks; but meeting new people and hanging out with friends outweighs it entirely. I didn't like back in freshman year, but after I got involved at took more difficult courses, it challenged me and kept me busy, which I like. Plus,I met tons of people with the same interests as me.

It's a waste if you already know what you want to be and you have to take classes you hate, but overall, being with your friends 8 hours a day isn't that bad.

I disagree. Not everyone knows what they want to do in their life in high school. High school also helps kids learn how to socialize and develop more social skills.

It seems like it, students dont seem to care about school much, some do and some dont, some are trying while most teachers dont deserve to be teachers.

Well if you think that highschool is a waste of life, try Pre-med. I got to class...yes, class. That doesnt mean lunch time or gym class tossed in there, this is 8 hours a day of class, 5 days a week for 4 years straight. Anyways, no highschool is not a waste, if you go to a pretty good highschool then you usually get a pretty damn good education.

And this is why high school is important. So that one can pity others.
