I don't know. For me it still comes back to the fact that I believe most politicians will say whatever they think they need to to get elected. Say you talk to somebody on an internet forum years ago and they say they're against gay marriage. Fast forward to now and they're for it. I would take that change of opinion as more sincere than a career politician making the change.
Most politicians are hypocrites. Certainly, neither Hillary Clinton nor President Obama were trailblazers for gay rights. They gave their support only after public opinion had already sided with that issue. It would have been nice to see them out in front - pushing for what they felt was right and just - instead of playing it safe. But I give them credit for at least not being obstructionist.
