Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton spoke to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Monday about the relationship between the United States and Israel.

Here is a list of chosen remarks:

CLINTON: I believe we must take our alliance to the next level. I hope a new 10-year defense memorandum of understanding is concluded as soon as possible to meet Israel’s security needs far into the future.

(APPLAUSE)

CLINTON: That will also send a clear message to Israel’s enemies that the United States and Israel stand together united.

CLINTON: It’s also why, as president, I will make a firm commitment to ensure Israel maintains its qualitative military edge. The United States should provide Israel with the most sophisticated defense technology so it can deter and stop any threats. That includes bolstering Israeli missile defenses with new systems like the Arrow Three and David’s Sling. And we should work together to develop better tunnel detection, technology to prevent armed smuggling, kidnapping and terrorist attacks.

CLINTON: Taking our alliance to the next level depends on electing a president with a deep, personal commitment to Israel’s future as a secure, Democratic Jewish state".

Source.

I thought this election was for the next president of the United States of America, not of Israel!

I'm so sick of these politicians sucking up to Israel. It's so insanely cynical. The reason we support them is because our country is largely christian. We support them because many of us believe if the Temple is rebuilt, this will signal the second coming of christ. And when that happens, since the Jews aren't followers of christ, they will all perish. When will this nonsense stop, and our leaders threaten Israel with loss of foreign aid unless they actually try to enact a two state system. This is insanity, and people's children are dying.......

It just staggers me, we are letting an Iron Age tome dictate so much of our lives like this. I always just think "Can't you guys just act like adults?!?!"

Why should Americans care about Israel? Is everything really about protecting the Jewish interests in Israel? Are they the elite or something? A bunch of rich, wealthy jewish zionists running the country?

Was all this Western intervention in the Middle East worth 9/11 and all the terrorist acts provoked? Why are the interests of the jewish zionists held above the rest of the country? Because we don't have money?

Well, Bernie is Jewish and has an established history of standing with the rest of Congress on matters pertaining to Israel. So I guess Hilary's latest pitch is directed more at Donald than at Bernie.

The funniest thing was Trump trying his best to muddle through a pandering speech (teleprompter even). He screwed it up and batshit crazy Ted capitalized on it.

Israel is asking for a 50% increase in the value of the 10-year defense aid package when it is renewed for the 2018--2028 period.

From a report published by The Times of Israel in May last year:

The previous package, negotiated by the George W. Bush and Ehud Olmert governments in 2007, averaged $3 billion of assistance each year, for a total of $30 billion, from 2007-2017.

The government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants that to increase to $42-45 billion over the 2018-2028 period, Defense News reported, adding that President Barack Obama during his March 2013 visit to Israel “endorsed in principle” that range.

I'll bet that they'll get it too.

It's our unwavering support for Israel I feel is responsible for the situation in Syria, and our main goal to remove Assad even at the expense of arming ISIS, allowing Turkey to murder Kurds in Iraq, Syria, and in their own borders. That allows Turkey to cut off water from the Euphrates and Tigris rivers to create water shortages and create famines for the civilizations that have relied on it for thousands of years, which further creates disputes in the south. We let them buy stolen oil that funds ISIS. We don't challenge them on them being a staging ground for terrorists to train in Turkey, to use their borders freely to move people traveling to Syria to fight for ISIS to come and go as they please. We don't challenge them in their part of allowing westerners to travel there, train for terrorism, and come back home. We allow all this to go one because the main goal is to remove Assad, other consequences be damned. And our reasons? Syria is an ally of Russia, and of Iran. Frankly, this all comes back to Israel. We could do a lot more to fight ISIS but we don't. Because the US government cares more about removing Assad than fighting ISIS.

I find it encouraging that others have realized these truths. They're rarely, if ever, espoused by the mainstream media, after all.

US's support of Israeli borders on scare ass 1984 shit.. None better illustrates that is when the Israeli PM spoke at congress, in which Rand Paul was publically criticized because apparently he wasn't clapping enthusiastically enough for the PM..

I'm an Israeli and I agree that the US president should first and foremost take care of his/her own, and the people electing him/her should care about that first as well. It's good to know where the candidate stands on foreign affairs, but I believe it to be a minor consideration when electing a president. I believe these bombastic statements are purely to draw more votes from Jewish/Israeli supporters, simply because Israel is sexy news.

Now don't think I mean there shouldn't be any relations between the US and Israel - on the contrary, It's always good for the US to have a friend/foothold in the middle east - and Israel, although small, can contribute its fair share in the international community quite well.

I cant stand how she and other political leaders pander. I have no problem with israel's existence as a state, but I don't think we should give any nation unconditional support or put their security ahead of ours.

This dude has it right. We need an ally to spread our influence. That is the political reason. Several Americans (like me) support a foreign relationship with Israel because it is God's Holy land, the Jews are promised the land, and we don't want other interests taking over the country.

One can support Israel's right to remain a state without supporting Zionism.

I for one, believe in a 2 state solution.

@Maroxad: yeah. Thats why they peeled the star off the jordainian flag. Lulz. Who do you think you are fooling?

The philistines were mediterraneans from crete. The cannaites spoke hebrew. The entire area was virtually an empty abandoned wasteland up until the early 20th century and the real story here is that the land was basically the toy none of the toddlers wanted to play with until someone did then everyone wanted to play with it.

Mark twain even wrote about it in the innocents abroad and said the whole time he was there he hardly saw a soul in the entire land.

You do realize that both the Jordanian Flag and the Palestinian flag is based on the Arab Revolt flag, right?

The rest is a falsehood and an anecdote.
