[QUOTE="R0cky_Racc00n"]I'm starting to feel like most hip hop fans are either elitests or ignorant.R0cky_Racc00n

Why do you feel this way?

It's either "underground is the only music worth listening to, why you listening to that mainstream garbage when you can listen to rappers nobody knows of that talk about talking of stuff but not saying anything"

i wouldnt call mainstream garbage...i mean they play nas once in a while right? in all seriousness...i just like to find those bands that my friends dont know, then share them with them. For example, cunninlynguists, i had to share them with everyone just because theyre really good and deserve better.

I don't have a problem with sharing underground music and sharing it because it's undergorund and appreciating it for its values and what it offers as an alternative to the mainstream, but the smugness that comes a long with it in some people annoys me greatly. When you start having a superiority complex about what you listen to and that "any" underground rapper is better than any mainstream rapper, that's when you're acting like an elitist. I see this a lot in people.

all im saying is, lisen to that song, and compare it to most mainstream nowadays.

Yeah, it's better than some mainstream today, but it's also better than some underground today. That's a strong track from a clasic album during a time when rappers such as Binary Star, Mos Def, and the like were fresh and hungry out to prove something. That's just picking one of the strongest material from a different time and comparing it to now, which I think doesn't make much sense. It's great to express opinions on the song and share similar music, but it's not fair to single out the mainstream of today.

I gotcha.

Mainstream doesn't preserve the true side of hip hop like the underground does. Theres not much talent or art in the mainstream community. For the most part, underground emcees are better than mainstream rappers.

It's either "underground is the only music worth listening to, why you listening to that mainstream garbage when you can listen to rappers nobody knows of that talk about talking of stuff but not saying anything" or "who the hell is that you're listening to on your ipod, I never heard him on a T-Pain song before, what a looser." I've met a ton of really cool guys on the net and some in person that have a deep respect for the art and have varied opinions and I'm not going to assume what proportion of listeners it is that I'm discontented with, but it seems that the two examples I gave have the loudest voices.

That would make sense because the ones that don't speak loudly are those that are just enjoying the music and not shoving their views down other peoples throats.
