Cannibal Corpse is pretty awful and it sickens me that they're such a well known death metal band :(Hip-hop is awesome. It'smusical poetry at its finest. The beats in hip-hop can also be pretty cool, especially if you have a good sound system, but the main reason why I like rap is for the lyrics and flow. Many people can'tunderstand the gangsta lingo, and to be honest, I can't at times either, but I almost think of it like Shakespere. You have to kind of read between the lines, so to speak. NOT that I'm comparing rappers to Shakespere, I'm just saying that neither can really be taken as face value. I dig old school west coast, but when it comes to 21st century rap, I like east coast. Rap can be violent, unlawful, and misogynistic, but it's nothing to be taken seriously. Although, some rappers do take it a bit far.
Metal is also a decent form of music, but it confuses me.One thing that gets on me about metal is how extreme it can be. For example, Cannibal Corpse. The music is bad, so bad. Why are the instruments so spastic? Why does the singer sound like cookie monster? Why are the lyrics so screwed up? I'm justusing this band as an example, because I know there are more bands out there like this.

I agree with this alot, cannibal corpse is horrible and there's alot of bands that sing about the same subjects as them or very anti-religious and satanic, I stay very clear from those.
Hip-hop = Awful.
Rock = Generally awesome.
Metal = Generally quite bad, but when the vocals are clean, it can be very good.

Well I hate hip-hop, because I know what most of it sounds like and any variation you'd care to throw at me I would also dislike. As for rock, I generally like it, though there are many bad rock groups. I also hate screamo/harsh vocals, so no matter how good a metalsong is, ifit hasgot those vocals, I won't like it. But I do like metal like Dream Theater, who have clean vocals. You have to generalise in order to answer the question, really.

Not all hip-hop is the same, you're thinking of the BET/MTV crap.
[QUOTE="bangell99"]I still don't get how people think that screamo is somehow directly related to metal.I also hate screamo/harsh vocals
-Chimera-
It's a subgenre of punk for christ sake.
Let's be honest, most metal does have harsh vocals, and I'm sure most of the metalheads will agree, as the majority of the stuff metalheads listen to on here has screaming.

That's still completely unrelated to what I'm talking about. Screamo doesn't have anything to do with metal. It's part of a different genre.I really enjoy both classic rock and metal... hard to decide between those two. I don't like rap... at all.chessmaster1989

I meant screaming, not the genre of screamo. I'll call it harsh vocals if you want.

It's just that it's a really annoying misconception, because the two are not directly related like that. You'll find that a lot of fans of metal are the same way.I still don't get how people think that screamo is somehow directly related to metal.[QUOTE="-Chimera-"][QUOTE="bangell99"]

Uhh, no it doesn't. The only metal genres to make heavy use of harsh vocals are Black and Death. The closest to that is maybe Thrash, but even then, comparing Thrash vocals to Death vocals is like comparing a poodle to a rottweiler. Power/Progressive Metal is what you should look for if you want clean vocals; you can find plenty of recommendations for those sitting around in OT, and some of the most popular metal bands in OT that produce such music are Kamelot, Nightwish, Epica and Symphony X.
[QUOTE="bobstos"]if everyone equally appreciated all kinds of music, then what would be the point of talking about them? it would almost defeat the purpose of OT.LJS9502_basicI appreciate all genres of music. Except bluegrass and polka. Other than that I can certainly find music to listen to in the genres.Haha, I would like to see your reaction if you heard Greek "laika" - the type of greek traditional music we play at festivals, marriage ceremonies etc etc.
:P
But yeah not quite one of the modern music genres.

Harsh vocals perhaps(but in truth not in my ears), but it dosen't make it part of Metal. And as chimera said, Screamo is a Punk sub genre so the Metalheads of GS wont agree with you there...
Screamo vocals are different compared to the growls and shrieks from certain Metal bands and sub genres.

A large amount yes, however I wouldn't say most, only 2.5 (Death and black, plus some thrash and doom) of the various subgenres really use it all the time, there are plenty of sub-genres that rarely if ever use harsh vocals:PI already accept the differences. I don't go out of my way to enjoy another particular genre though. It's fine that it's different and most (mature) fans of music have accepted that. If they don't like it, it's not for them. Saying something stupid like "it's just noise" or "it's all about women and drugs" or any sort of generalization would be wrong.

Hip hop is the best that other crap sucks balls.Hip hop has The Game,T.I,Lupe,Nas,Jay-z,Kanye,locksmith,wale,drake,Wu-tang,Chamillionaire,Eminem,Ludacris, and many other good rappers. All different styles of rappers in a great genre.
i love hip hop n i like some rock, but i dont like metalanihimrox222Darn you anihim!! :P I like some hip hop, and rock. Listen to it sometimes now and then. But metal....that's like 24/7.
Mine was 60% metal, 20% rock, 10% electronica, and 10% folk. That was before I got so much new music that I didn't have room for the others and now it's almost 100% metal. I don't listen to my Ipod outside of the car though, so I still listen to rock/electronica/folk on my PC. :PHip-Hop: 60% of my Ipod.
Rock: 30% of my Ipod.
Metal: 10% of my Ipod.
Hey, at least I'm all around.
