Here is a list of Bible quotes that I wish were told as much as that John 3:16 line.

Kill those who are not Christian or Jewish:

You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20

Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10

Kill all the inhabitants of any city where you find people that worship differently than you. Deuteronomy 13:12-16

Kill everyone who has religious views that are different than your own. Deuteronomy 17:2-7

Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13

Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20

Any city that doesn't receive the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11

Jude reminds us that God destroys those who don't believe in him. Jude 5

Ignorance is bliss. Christians should not practice free inquiry nor socialize with non Christians:

Don't associate with non-Christians. Don't receive them into your house or even exchange greeting with them. 2 John 1:10

Shun those who disagree with your religious views. Romans 16:17

Paul, knowing that their faith would crumble if subjected to free and critical inquiry, tells his followers to avoid philosophy. Colossians 2:8

Judge other religions for not following Christ:

Whoever denies"that Jesus is the Christ"is a liar and an anti-Christ. 1 John 2:22

Christians are"of God;"everyone else is wicked. 1 John 5:19

The non-Christian is"a deceiver and an anti-Christ"2 John 1:7

Anyone who doesn't share Paul's beliefs has"an evil heart."Hebrews 3:12

False Jews are members of"the synagogue of Satan."Revelations 2:9, 3:9

Here are my two personal favorites:

Everyone will have to worship Jesus -- whether they want to or not. Philippians 2:10

A Christian can not be accused of any wrongdoing. Romans 8:33

This is why I deserted Christianity and became an Atheist. To be honest all religious books are equally intolerant.

Firstly, none of thoes are direct bible quotes. You can tell by the language used. The language is way too modern to be direct quotes. Although I suspect they are just modernised and are actually in the bible, just in older language, but it is best to use actual quotes - modernisations can be missinterpritations.

Seccondly, without the context it is impossible to judge. Many of thoes will make sense in context. Although some of them, even in context will be intolerant.

Perhaps a few are taken out of context, but I've no doubt that plenty aren't.

Your point of view intrigues me. Usually those who oppose religion also oppose faith on the grounds that it is irrational, which it is.

I don't mind your arguement, but please in future put all things in context when trying to prove a point. They may or may not mean different things.

Well there was the whole love thy neighbour and turn the other cheek stuff. Guess it depends which bits you feel like following.

Oh and I'm pretty sure that somewhere the Bible welcomes rational inquiry and encourages individual thinking. Wouldn't know where to find it though.

not at all...there's more to the universe than we can possibly know.....I'm not saying that God created everything....or that he/she/it didn't...in the end a perfectly scientific reason behind everything may come to present itself........but having a belief in something bigger than yourself can give you strength in times of need...and there's nothing wrong with that as everyone needs something to lean on from time to time....

It also seems God doesn't seem to care about rape and murder too much:

As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

What kind of God approves of murder, rape, and slavery?

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker? Answer: God.

Lo, a day shall come for the Lord when the spoils shall be divided in your midst. And I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle: the city shall be taken, houses plundered, women ravished; half of the city shall go into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be removed from the city. (Zechariah 14:1-2 NAB)

Christians are always claiming, "he's the lamb", "our savior", "the king of peace", "the embodiment of love", amongst the many other names they associate with a loving, merciful nature. Jesus a nice guy? Not in my book. Nor in any other person's who is capable of compassion and rationality. Let's examine who the hell the Jesus character really is. These verses will show not only is Jesus' "loving" nature a joke but so are the Christians who worship him. Jesus' real mission to come to earth:

Jesus says that he has come to destroy families by making family members hate each other. He has "come not to send peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34

Jesus says, "Don't imagine that I came to bring peace on earth! No, rather a sword lf you love your father, mother, sister, brother, more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. "The real beauty of this verse is that Jesus demands people truly love him more then they love their own family. I ask you how can we love someone that we can not see or interact with? Love is an emotion pertaining to physical existence not to faithful ideologies, yet God threatens you with Death just because your love for your mother maybe stronger than your love for him. Matthew 10:34

Families will be torn apart because of Jesus. "Brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death."Matthew 10:21

Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn't the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. Matthew 5:17

Jesus advocates murder and death:

Jesus condemns entire cities to dreadful deaths and to the eternal torment of hell because they didn't care for his preaching. Matthew 11:20

Jesus, whose clothes are dipped in blood, has a sharp sword sticking out of his mouth. Thus attired, he treads the winepress of the wrath of God. (The winepress is the actual press that humans shall be put into so that we may be ground up.) Revelations 19:13-15

The beast and the false prophet are cast alive into a lake of fire. The rest of us the unchosen will be killed with the sword of Jesus. "An all the fowls were filled with their flesh."Revelations 19:20-21

Jesus says he is the only way to salvation yet he purposely disillusions us so that we will go to hell:

Jesus explains that the reason he speaks in parables is so that no one will understand him,"lest . . . they . . . should understand . . . and should be converted, and I should heal them." Matthew 13:10-15

Jesus explains why he speaks in parables to confuse people so they will go to hell. Mark 4:11-12

Jesus advocates child abuse:

Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment:"He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death."Matthew 15:4-7

Abandon your wife and children for Jesus and he'll give your a big reward. Jesus asks that his followers abandon their children to follow him. To leave your child is abuse, it's called neglect, pure and simple. Matthew 19:29

Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children according to Old Testament law. Mark 7:9

You're obviously just copying and pasting from a website. Why don't you actually write what you think and then back it up with bible quotes rather than just copying and pasting everything.

I don't have time to look through the bible trying to find weird quotes so I'm using other sources, the site I'm using has links to online Bibles that back up the claims being made.

What I mean is, don't copy and paste things, actually use the keyboard to say your actual opinion rather than copying and pasting someone elses opinion, even if it is similar to your own.

And no, I'm not saying you're a nazi or like Hitler I couldn't think of a better example :/

About what parts of the bible people choose to believe in?

Yup. If your claiming that the bible is intolerant then you must dismiss all of the tolerant passages (just like a person who claims the bible is awesome dismisses the dodgy stuff).

...yeah...that sums it up nicely......you may want to actually discuss things with the people that are posting rather than just continue to copy and paste.....many are making valid arguments you seem to be just ignoring....

True actually, but people never talk about the intolerant part.

Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Things change.

Counter-examples... would Hitler get away with using 'I'm nice to Aryans' as a counter-example?

And no, I'm not saying you're a nazi or like Hitler I couldn't think of a better example :/

The bible seems to say different things. On the one hand there's the TC's passages which demonstrate intolerance towards non-Christians. On the other there's the passages saying be nice to everyone regardless of faith. Contradictory I know butthe Bible is only evil if you cherry pick.

Again I say, I DON'T HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO WRITE ALL OF THIS! Come on it's pretty long and it sums up what I think perfectly.

And Omni-Slash, you asked for a link, I gave it to you so stop moaning. If you want to turn this into school yard insult trading, please leave.

felixlynch777
stop moaning?..if you'd read any of the replies (which I'm pretty sure you haven't)...I pretty much agree with you on some things...problem being some people are saying that your "argument's" are factually wrong....yet you are just posting more quotes and ignoring them....:|

Probably because not many people actually practice it.

The beauty of this entire argument is that you forget that the Abrahamic God, as described in the Torah, Bible, and Qur'an, is omnipotent, and therefore consists of all human emotion and all human psyches. God is just as much a psychotic maniac as It is a benevolent ruler. It is the perfect diety because It is emotion. Whether or not that emotion is good, no human can say, because we are imperfect creatures, and therefore cannot judge the actions of a perfect being.

Call it a cop-out, whatever you wish. If you're going to blast the Bible, however, then you had better prepare to bash other religions, because the vast majority of them have similar tendencies.

And also only good if you cherry pick. It contraticts itself so much that it doesn't give a coherent message.

I don't see how being all-powerful would lead logically to being all-, er, emotional.

I'm also quite happy to bash other religions. :P

If you are all-powerful, then you can do or be whatever you want, even create a boulder that It cannot lift, so long as It limits Its power (just to defuse that argument right here). It can be completely emotional or devoid of emotion, whatever It wishes to be, if It can even wish.

[QUOTE="Omni-Slash"]how about giving props to the site you're ripping this off from.....felixlynch777

Please, if you have nothing useful to say, don't say anything.

You're obviously just copying and pasting from a website. Why don't you actually write what you think and then back it up with bible quotes rather than just copying and pasting.

I don't have time to look through the bible trying to find weird quotes so I'm using other sources, the site I'm using has links to online Bibles that back up the claims being made.

What I mean is, don't copy and paste things, actually use the keyboard to say your actual opinion rather than copying and pasting someone elses opinion, however similar it is to your own.

Again I say, I DON'T HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO WRITE ALL OF THIS! Come on it's pretty long and it sums up what I think perfectly.

and you're here posting in OT....

Yet you've posted over 5000 posts. From now on, keep the insults out.

I dont see how me having 5000 posts have anythign to do with this. And I was not insulting, I was point out a contradiction.

I suppose so... although I don't see why God would choose, as an initially rational being, to become a psychotic being.

Although the thing about the boulder demonstrates that an omnipotent God is impossible anyway.

the bible is fine as long as you follow the lessons it teaches, and you don't believe word for word.
