Very uncommon to use enemy firearms. In wars past, armies would use captured cannon and such, but not so much now.

Um.....There was an article about US Marines dumping their M4 carbines to take the enemy's AK 47s since they had the 7.62 instead of M4's 5.56 round.

Thats seems weird because unlike what people think the 5.56 round is superior in every way.

Not really. Doesn't do as much damage. That's one of the reasons people like the 240B, it uses 7.62 rounds.

I don't think that's a very good comparison, Spartan. People are comparing M16s versus AK-47s, I'm pretty sure. The 7.62 NATO round used in the 240 is considerably larger and more powerful than the 7.62x39 in an AK-47. More importantly, however, the 240 is a different c|ass of weapon. This is like, in a discussion of the merits of BMPs versus armored Humvees, someone says, "That's why people like M1 Abrams." Well, yeah...that's an entirely different category.

Yes. there were a lot of instances. It's usually trophy collection, but I know of several instances where infantry units preferred enemy-issued sidearms because they were much better. it's not something you do independently, though.

In Vietnam, when the US first started issuing the M16, some soldiers ditched their M16 for AK-47's because they had so many problems with their M16.

I know it's a completely different type of weapon. That wasn't my point. The AK does have more stopping power than a M16/M4. A NATO 5.56 round is not very powerful. Regardless, I'd still take my M4 over an AK47 any day. The only advantage the AK really has is you don't have to take care of it as much you do an M4. Some people just are lazy/stupid and don't take care of their weapons properly (see: 507th Maintenance).
