My brother was obsessed with Pearl Jam, which got me listening to them and so on.

I got into music when I was 17 after watching a few YouTube movies from Justice League Unlimited clips with music in the background. That helped me get into Evanescence and some other bands, like Muse. I started listening to the radio and got into some less talented bands like Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace. Rock Band helped me introduce to more types of music like Pearl Jam and Rush.

I was actually picked on in middle school because I didn't know any of the bands my friends listened to at the time, so during the summer after 6th grade, I did tons of "research" and listened to lots of music. Been hooked ever since.

My parents listened to a lot of oldies, so I got way into that when I was growing up. When I was in about 3rd or 4th grade, I tried to start listening to what was new on the radio because all of the kids in my class were talking about bands I didn't know about. I gave that a shot and didn't like it. I gave in to the Backstreet Boys fad for a little while, but that didn't last for long because I didn't actually like that music. I went back to oldies pretty quickly. In 7th grade I got into Linkin Park, The Offspring (I still love them), Green Day, ska (Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, etc.), Flogging Molly, Franz Ferdinand, etc. In 8th grade I moved on to Slipknot (lol), Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Amon Amarth, Finntroll, Soilwork, Dream Theater, Lacuna Coil, etc. I liked nu metal and some decent metal bands. I just don't feel like listing them all. In 10th grade I immediately stopped listening to all of the metal. I don't know why, but I just did. I moved back to the oldies (though I always loved oldies) and got way way into The Beatles. I got REALLY into psychedelic rock from the '60s. Now I'm a freshman in college and I listen to oldies/classic rock, ska, jazz, classical, Irish music, etc. I'll even give some rap a chance. The only genre I can't stand is country, and I'm not big on pop music.

My parents always loved music, but I didn't really catch up until I was about fifteen. Before that, I listened to sub-par modern punk bands, in a casual way. Later I found a little band called Splashdown, and they completely turned my musical tastes upside down. They had middle-eastern, electro and trip-hop influences, and their songs still mean a lot to me.

I then moved on to lots of different stuff, like Portishead, Kate Bush, Sonic Youth, Cranberries and real old-school punk like The Clash, Dead Kennedys or The Replacements. Lately I've been listening to my father's old jazz records, I'm trying to have as much diversity as possible :)

Back when MTV used to play music videos all the time, they got me started on Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then I remember seeing the video for Paranoid Android and was instantly hooked to Radiohead from there on. I was about 12 when I saw the video for the first time.

I dont know, probably just listening to whatever station my mother had on the radio. Therefore whenever I hear songs from the 90's that were popular, I usually nostalgia. However I now enjoy classical and insturmental jazz and I have no idea what made me get into that. I just happened sometime....
