How do people know when a drawing has been traced ?

This looks traced.

I can tell from some of the lines and from having seen quite a few tracings in my time.

Everybody has their style of drawing. A traced picture would look totally different to that style.

Most people aren't that confident that they'd draw fluid, accurate lines straight into a sketch, there'd likely be a lot of quick, short, overlapping and corrective strokes if the picture was drawn from life.

Also, we're only so good at drawing proportions freehand - if they're exact, chances are it was traced.

Depends really on the person. If you have known this person for his/her own unique style of drawing, you'll easily identify his new creation whether he choose to trace or not.

Well, for starters, if the person completely sucks at drawing and then suddenly has a drawing that is simply well done, you can tell it was traced; at least, most of the time it will be traced.

A tracing will have long, continuous lines, while a drawing will probably have shorter, less perfect lines and corrections.
