[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]Why would one skip something they are paying for and benefiting immensly from? The mentality of skipping class is lost on me. thepwninator
Because, occasionally, the cIass has sessions that, quite simply, don't provide me with any benefit whatsoever. Physics is the only cIass I ever skip, and then it's only on the days when they do QA instead of lecturing. I went to the first few, and they just didn't help me at all.

Ironically, it's the opposite for me. Q&A sessions help me out more than the lectures.

I think it's pretty stupid and immature; there's something wrong with you if you can't survive a class for 50 minutes. I've never done it before, even though I hate one of my classes right now.

You've never had a class longer than 50 minutes? Wow, you're lucky.

I skipped a lot of classes in university. After the first couple of weeks in a course you get a good sense of how the prof is proceeding and whether the lectures are beneficial to you or not. Yes, you can ask questions, but I've had profs that were less effective at teaching the material than the textbooks were, so I just downloaded their slides and read the book in lieu of classes and only went to write midterms. Unfortunately, some of my schedules were set up so that an important class sat beside an unimportant one that I planned on skipping, which made it hard to force myself to trek all the way over to the university. I do regret that.

i haven't skipped any (high school senior) but after the AP bio test my teacher said we're doing nothing so save our absences hint hint (and this is the strictest teacher in the school) so i'll skip a few. i can have 7 unexcused absences before i lose credit.

I never missed a single day or class during high school; it's sad I know lol. I've skipped a few classes in college, but usually only when I have to study for a midterm, finish a lab, or I'm just too damn tired and would fall asleep during class anyway lol.

Personally, I think it is pretty irresponsible.

True. However, it's much easier to skip class than it is to get well, so I opt for the former.

Yeah, you can get the material from the classes, but then you miss out on that teacher/student interaction. The ability to ask questions and delve deeper than power points let you. I usually have a list of questions after class for my teacher. I couldn't do that if I just self-studied. (Which I tried one semester by the way. I clepped statistics.)Vandalvideo

Well, like I said, it depends on whether or not you feel skipping classes negatively affects your grades. For me, it really didn't at all; I had classes where I literally didn't show up except to write midterms and the final exam and I got an A. For others, however, it might, and in those cases it would certainly not be a good idea to do so.

There's a big difference between skipping classes irresponsibly and skipping classes becauseyou really honestly just don't need to go.

I ditched a few times when I was in 11th grade. I didn't have to when I was a senior because I had half-days, which was awesome! :D
