How Do You Feel About The Big Bang Theroy(The Show)

So one of the biggest guilty pleasure I have is liking TBBT. Although I'm never really sure how bad I should feel about it. On one hand a lot of it's jokes come from tired stereotypes about geeks, The characters are also walking stereotypes, and it never really dose much to push people perceptions or geek culture. On the other hand I'm a sucker for the "Two best friends sharing a apartment, sitcom adventure" shtick, and I do think they moved away from stereotyping the characters in the later season. Wolowitz is a good example. He's the pervy "OMG he never had a sexual encounter that didnt involve money or a 10-15 Mbps internet connection" nerd, but he ended up in a stable(for a sitcom) marriage. And as much as they use geek culture as the punchline, they are also giving it representation in the prime time spotlight.

How do you all feel about the show?

I think it kinds of sucks and yet I still watch it from time to time. The true is I'll watch whatever the hell TBS puts in front on me, even that Friends crap too (like once every 6 months).

I trusted you TBS. I TRUSTED YOU! You have given me so much. But you hyped this to death and took away Everybody Loves Raymond (not as good on the 10th watching).

And the misfit who matures, like Wolowitz, feels like just par for the course.

It's pish and lazy, with a lazy concept.

Forced geek humor for non geeks.

My girlfriend and I watch it sometimes. She's chemist though and calls out some of the fallacies while were watching.

Geeks and nerds hate it because it accurately portrays their lives.

I imagine you wont get many people here who aren't offended by it.

I got sick of it after season 2.

I'm not offended by it. I make money being a nerd.

All my friends from school who thought being smart was lame, now work at a gas station or Wal Mart. I point and laugh routinely.

I don't understand why you're under the impression they don't. Do you not understand what's going on in the show?

I like the show, I like the characters, I like the stories, I like the humor, and TBS has several episodes on each night and they've several seasons worth of episodes and even after seeing each episode probably several times a piece I still watch it.

Few shows have done this to me in the same manner, have me watching several episodes on daily basis, years ago it was Friends and Seinfeld and Fresh Prince and Save By the Bell, not the most ennobling of television sitcoms. Tomorrow it'll be something else considered base.

At least I can pride myself for not watching reality television.

Awesome show, I love it.

This. Nothing wrong with a show about nerds, but this one feels like it's written by TV screenwriters as opposed to actual nerds. The people I know who enjoy it mostly enjoy what I would call "mainstream" sitcoms along with some people with nerd-like tendencies but not really anyone I'd consider an "uber-geek" like me.

The IT Crowd, on the other hand, fucking kills me.

@Jaysonguy: What I got from your post is that the show portrays geeks and nerds in a negative fashion and that geeks and nerds, especially the ones here, would take offense to the show'starts portrayal.

It'll do if there's nothing else to do with my time... It was pretty good at first, but now the characters are way too annoying. They've become caricatures of themselves (Leonard is a sarcasm machine, for example) and it's a little more cringeworthy now...

The Leonard/Penny storyline is beyond stale. When someone becomes pregnant it will be time to end the show and I'm pretty sure that's where it's heading.

Sums up my thoughs pretty much... It's stereotyped as **** too, not that I have a huge problem with that, since everything is to some degree.

I am a geek and a nerd, I make good money for being so but hardly it portrays my life, maybe a little bit when I was back in high school and just a little bit because opposed to the characters I was the "popular" geek and nerd in my grade.

I don´t hate the series nor are offended by it, on the contrary, I love it and can hardly wait for the next season.

Very much like the Daphne/Niles plot-line from Frasier. But not good.

So I just found an episode on YT (S1x3 - "50/50") and that's much better than TBBT.

I don't find it funny, I'm just mystified by its popularity. It seems to me it appeals to people who aren't real nerds and they are laughing at it instead of with it. Also no east Asians?

People hate it because it's reinforcing an archaic stereotype. I grew up with a lot of nerds that don't conform to that portrait.

Watching it for Sheldon ...he's a great character...

Suggest me some sitcoms...especially those who say this one sucks ...
