How do you meet friends?

Hi, here's my problem;

I recently moved to Chicago to be with my girlfriend that I met over 2 years ago playing Guild Wars. For the past 3 months she has become my life, everything I do, I do with her (some people say that might not be healthy for a relationship but works just fine for us) . Since I've never been in the states I don't have any friends here, I graduated college and I work from home. That means I don't have real ways, I think, of meeting new people. My girlfriend left for Europe on a family trip that was planned before I came into her life, so now I've been alone this couple of days playing Metroid and Bioshock, but today I really felt those lonely Metroid enviroments. My question is, what would you guys do to find or talk to people if you were in my position?

I mingle very easily in to a crowd. I would usually just dance in the dance floor at a club and meet people that way.

lol, I'm trying to get my GF to do Adult Friend Finder but together ;), no other way. The other response about hanging out with my GF's friends, well the truth is that they are a bunch of potheads and my gf stopped talking to them once she met me.

No, because she stopped talking to all her "bad" friends, for me and the ideal of a better life. That shows a lot of compromise.

That's kinda true, we've become loners. The thing is that she used to be into drugs with her friends, but she stopped using them and the only thing they really had in common was being high all the time. Now she doesn't have that and even feels judged by them.

Oh...well. That's quite the predicament. Just....do...something you like doing. Chances are you'd see people you like (with the obvious exception of doing things like staying at home playing MP3)-kaz3-

I think I'll become a workaholic/alchoholic this week in my living room. And of course, getting up at 4am to talk to random people in forumd help =) Ty for the comments though, it's awesome to not feel ignore by the air conditioner.

Did she only smoke pot? You cant really call smoking pot "using a drug". You just smoke it..its pot..its not like crack or heroine or anything. I hate when people say things like " do you do weed? " ...you dont do it..you smoke it.

No, not only pot. She and her friends would do every type of drug possible. When she met me, (2 years ago) she decided to quit and to this day never done drugs or smoked pot again. I used to smoke when I was in college but also stopped after my I got a B? :D

You met your gf playing on the PC? :lol: But man you gotta go out to a bar, a sports bar is a really good place.Especially in a sports town like Chicago.jimmygrace

Yeah I was told that everyone loved them, but they would always suck. But I've been listening to a couple of games and they are winning!

Go to a bar or something. You're bound to find someone. Another thing, surely you must have met some of your GF's friends or something, so you can start with them and branch out.-kaz3-
