How do you react to tailgaters?

I was driving home the other day, going the speed limit, and this guy drives right up behind me. When this happens I slow right down. I went from 80 to 60 km/h, and this guy was pissed. He's turning his brights on and off and yells at me after he finally gets a chance to pass at an intersection.

So how do you deal with tailgaters?

I usually just ignore them. If I'm on a regular city street though sometimes I'll slow way down and piss them off.

2. See tailgater

3. Hit brakes

4. ???

5. Profit

Engage in street race; smoke dem fools.

Hit the brakes over and over again.

Stay the same speed.

I usually slow down until they get the hint and switch lanes.

If I'm being tailgated when I'm going the speed limit or faster (which really angers me), I slow down. A LOT. The last time I remember it happening I was going 40 in a 35 zone, and someone was right up on me. So I slowed to 20 and I loved every minute of it.

However, if someone is going way under the speed limit, tailgating is totally called for.

I either slowd down when cars are coming then speed up enough so they can't pass then even so I drive close to the yellow line so they can't see to pass or try to. Other times I try and slam on my breaks to see if they hit me.

Slow way down, it's a little thing i've always called "break checking"

Meh... I switch lanes and let them pass me. No need to make it into a drawn out thing. They want to go faster, and if I have the ability for them to do that, then by all means.

Brake check. I almost caused an accident on the freeway once, but I guarantee that guy never tailgated again. I generally go faster than the limit, though. If someone was going the limit in front of me and not letting me by I'd be angry too.

I either speed up or change lanes. It doesn't happen to me a lot though.

I usually want to take the brake fuse out and brake check them hard, but then I think about my vehicle and how much I like it so I ignore it. However, I wouldn't mind having some caltrops and dropping 'em out of my window as I move over to the right lane. :twisted:

Slow down more, I love tailgaters... hit me and I get compensation.

I'm usually going a little over the speed limit, so when someone starts tailgaiting I make sure to go the exact speed limit. I'm sure they don't appreciate that. :)King_Creole_35

I'd continue to do my speed. But, if it's at night, I'd adjust my mirrors so the lights reflect back towards the tailgater.

I break really hard. Gotta love Florida's law of if you're hit in the back it's there fault.Fightingfan

Slow down to just a bit below the limit. They usually pass you.

Stay the same speed since I'm usually not in a rush.

Maintain the same speed or slow down if they're annoying me with their lights or horn.

I usually keep on going at whatever speed I was going and either let them tailgate me or get around me. Not going to let some d-bag change the way I drive just because he's in a hurry.

You have a tailgater. Who's probably already aggrevated because you're driving slow. So you slow down to make them angry.

Why would you purposely try to cause a situation?

I either stay the same speed, or if I'm in the faster lanes on the freeway, I switch over.

Seems like most OTers like to fight bad driving... with more bad driving.

I usually press the brake for few second.... to give tailgates a little shock. One incident happen when I do this...... I heard difting sound behind me.... he almost skidded..... I lolhippiesanta
