This is insane, how much music people can have!?!? People have like 1000 songs, yet they only listen to5-6 songs regularly. an Ipod with what, 40 GB of memory? MY PC doesn't even need that much space! stevendiep_100

"I only listen to 5-6 songs regularly. I assume this must be everyone else's habit as well."
Personally, I like to be able to select whatever music I'm in the mood for without having to plan it ahead of time.

I barely listen to some of my songs to. I always tell myself that I'll get around checking them out but stick to a few. just don't want to get rid of them for some reason
My 2 GB pod is already getting short of space with only 200 songs in it.
And it's suposed to fit 500!

Well, they assume a certain bit rate and average song length. They kind of have to if they put that on there at all, and of course they are going to pick numbers that make it look better, as far as they can without being totally outrageous.

Exactly, really if you have good taste and a wide palette (in music that is) you really need all that space. Especially when you listen to metal, there's so many bands out there worth listening to it's crazy.

I just checked the pack that costco gave me, it says 500 songs each lasting 3 minutes or less, and it was printed in small letters.

oh, i meant i have 4000 songs on my computer.. but i only have a 1GB mp3, wich has the songs i listen to most... heck i dont listen to 50% of the songs i have:PYeah, i've got 2000+ songs on the PC and only listen to about 100-200 of them. I don't even have a MP3 player, I had a old one (not Ipod) and it broke, right now I don't want to spend money on one.
I have about 35,000 songs, I listen to about 85% of them and know them by tune. The rest I keep on for my friends when they want to listen to something....This isn't on an mp3 player by the way, they don't make them big enough yet. If you want an estimate, I think it's 191 gigabytes (most of them are 192-320kbps mp3's).crucifine
wow, you've spent a lot of money on your music. I could have that much music, but... that would be WAY too much money to spend. I'd rather get... I don't know, a car.

Ya, some people have got to have their music. One of my friends bought a pretty expensive server just to host all of his songs. The server is currently taking up his only closet and breaths like a beast. I have not idea how many songs he has on that thing, but he likes to claim he has everything known to man. As for me, I'm happy with my 500 song collection. But one day I will invest a good chunk into my collection, maybe after college.Money spent =/= amount of music.
I have 30 gigs on my hard drive right now.I've gota lot of cds I'm waiting to dump on there. I keep thinking I'll kind of top off, but I keep finding new periods and styles to get into. I'm stuck on the 70s in general right now, because I've pretty much ignored it.

How is there even enough time in a day to hear that many songs, let alone listen to them again and again?

...Most uploaders are small groups of people ripping early leaks of cd's/DVD screeners/etc. Sometimes funded by organized criminals. Other times it's just people trying to spread the word about a band/movie/game/etc. that they like. crucifine
Tell me again what organized criminals would gain by providing free music files?

I have a Rio karma, which holds appx 18.7 GB of music. I use the FLAC format, which is lossless. When I rip my CDs to Karma, they take up a lot of space. So much that average songs take 20 or so MB. That's like, 960 songs. Not NEARLY enough.
If I were to use MP3(which I do on newer rips as my computer HD is straining to hold so much music), I still wouldn't be able to hold my collection. For reference, I'm a student making $9 an hour, working 3 seven hour shifts per week, and I bought around 200 CDs in the last 2 years. Maybe a bit more than 200. I don't know. So I really want a new MP3 player with a higher storage capacity. 80GB would really help with not having to re-load my player.
