I was walking to Bank of America to withdraw cash to pay for the game (I pay with cash if I can help it), when JUST as I get there, a middle aged woman pulled over there and stopped next to me. She had almost no gas left in her car (she actually showed me the thing on empty) and she asked me for gas money to drive back to Augusta (I live in Metro-Atlanta) mentioning her kids and a failed job application. I only had 60 dollars left in my account and you can only withdraw cash in multiples of 20 from BoA. So I gave her 40 dollars (I am just utterly devoid of a backbone whether or not one considers that a good thing) and now I have to wait until next month before I can get enough money for the game :( (I am NOT asking my mom for money as sh ewill most likely kill me for giving away money to a stranger).

I don't regret giving her the cash because if what she was saying was true and was not a con, she needed the money MUCH more than I did. I blame our omnipowerful creator for orchestrating that encounter (I beleive in a higher power, but notin worship or an afterlife; I just don't have that much stock in humanity's overall cosmic importance). Only thing worse than being a borderline useless 20 year old who lives with my mother is being self-conscious of my overall worthlessness. :(

There's a due here who wanders around looking sad around the movie theatres, and says how much he misses his family but doesn't have enough money to pay for a bus trip across the country to Montreal. Sometimes he'll even offer to sell you his watch. Somehow in two years he hasn't scrounged up enough money to make that trip. Or rather, he hasn't been spending it on bus tickets, just smack.

Odds are it was a sham and this woman just took 40 bux from you. However there is a small chance that she was telling the truth. Either way, I think you did a good thing, but the wrong thing. I know there are always exceptions , but if someone is in desperate need for money (especially such a small amount as 40 dollars) then something is seriously wrong in that persons life. More often than not I find that when I gave or let someone borrow money it only delayed their problem for another day. In other words you are just fighting symptoms when there is a much bigger problem. If this lady can not even come up with 40 dollars for gas money then I have a hard time believing that she is a responsible adult and mother who has just fallen on some misfortune. You may have got her home, but who is going to pay the next 40 dollars that she needs?

My parents got tricked by someone like that. The lady said she knew of my parents, was from the same town and needed some money to get on her way. She sealed the deal by taking my home address so she could send the money back when she got home. My parents, naive as they are, accepted. We never got the money back.

I wouldn't have given her the money. What if she had the money somewhere in the car and just wanted more? You really can't trust people imo. Sorry you have to wait for your game though.

I personally wouldn't give away money to any stranger, unless I know 100% that they are using it for the intended purposes. You might have been a tad too generous, and might have even been ripped off by a con-artist. Or you could have done a good deed. But ultimately, you can never know and now just have to be patient. However, I doubt God had anything to do with it.

There are a ton of panhandlers and scam artists here in downtown Victoria and I've become extremely jaded to them. Gas money, bus money, food money, I've pretty much heard any excuse from people. Many of them get nothing from me and the next person feels sorry for them and hands over a bill. On two occasions I've then see that person who so needed to go home walk across the street and into the liquor store.

Yes, you got jacked, 100%. She played you like a fool. If you want to donate money to people who really need it look into donating to charities, not some random person on the street who most likely fed you a bull**** story. I've helped out people with gas before, but they didn't ask me for 40 dollars worth. 5 bucks would have been alright, but giving her 40, man you really need to think stuff out before you do it.

I bought the Limited Edition of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for $50 CAD in 2006. Now it is worth over $250 USD used. Investments can come in many forms. :P

Though, I still kick myself for not buying 10 copies like I had planned for resale down the road.

That is a low average of what they are going for on eBay. People pay hundreds of dollars for sealed copies of Chrono Trigger and FFVII, despite them being very common (FFVII had at least 10 million copies printed)... while a game like MGS3SLE was an actual "limited" release of only a few thousand copies. Just look at some of those old NES games that are selling for over $10,000. Chances are, there will be someone out there willing to pay a lot of money to get it.

If they are Greatest Hits, doubtful, as I believe Square Enix is still manufacturing most of their big name GH games for the PS1, or at least, did so long after the console itself died. But if they are black label, they are already worth something.

Actually it probably won't come back around. He'll just be down $40.

It was a nice gesture, but probably wasted. Most of the people asking for money on the street are probably not going to spend it on what they say they will.

My Grandma got scammed like that. Its sucks.

She is around 80 years old, frail and consists of all the traits of an 80 year old woman would have. She has a poor memory and is generally very accepting. Someone came up to her and acted like they knew her and wanted to get together. They did. And they "beat" her up somewhat. They pushed her around stole her wedding ring and other jewelry. She lives in Michi. while I live in Texas and I flaired UP!

I hate people some times. :(. But anyway if a person were to ask money from me randomly i doubt I would do it. But that doesn't mean you weren't being a good person. Atleast in your mind you can think you helped a person out, even, if perhaps you didn't.
