[QUOTE="Pierst179"] It just went back in time.ITasteBlood

no, they vastly improved

[QUOTE="Darth-Caedus"]A couple years ago I was listening to Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park....and all that garbage. Now I listen to GOOD music:Psolid_mario
I never understand why people dismiss the bands they listened to as they were kids. I listened to Slipknot when I was like 12 and, although I basically never listen to them now, they were an important part of shaping my musical tastes. My tastes have changed drastically and not at all. In my car, I have one of the first CDs I ever bought, blink - 182's "Take off Your Pants and Jacket" but I am listening to a metalcore band while I line up a drum and bass song to listen to next. I like to think my tastes have matured but I love the things I listened to a kid, reminds me of better times... :P

i used to like backstreet boys, nsync, and brittany spears when i was a kid and they had just came out, they obviously sucked. should i respect them just because i used to like them? if i could go back in time id hand myself kreators pleasure to kill when i was 10 years old. just because you used to like something, dosn't mean they were good or that its ok.. i wish i could have gotten into, or done many things sooner rather than later in life.

I used to listen to California punk crap like The Offspring. Then I found out about a little band called Splashdown, they were shoegaze/pop/middle-eastern/electronic and really innovative. It changed everything, but I was still stuck with recent bands like The Sundays, Weezer, Sixpence None the Richer, Garbage, nothing older than the '90s.

Then a friend who grew up in the '80s introduced me to goth rock and new wave, and from there I ended up absolutely loving everything from the '80s, even crappy pop music. After that I discovered '70s punk (which is, so far, pretty much the only thing from that decade I really like), old-school hip-hop and finally, No Wave bands like Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and Sonic Youth.

It's been a pretty long trip, as you can see :P

I use to dislike Metal and basically anything with a guitar and listen to all rap and stuuf (I blame Midnight Club 3) and then I started listening to my friends music and playing GH 2 and started to like it a lot. Then I learned how to download music for free and just decided to get some System of a Down songs because that was one band I rememberd my friend showed me and now they are my favorite artist. I don't really listen to rap any more, just occasionally.

Dawq902
id like to see you make a thread in 2 years, talking about how you used to think system of a down was real metal and how they were your favorite band, and look back laughingly.

My brother took me out of metal in middle school by showing me some Spanish Rock bands (thank god). I used to listen to Green Day and Blink-182 a lot, but I just grew out of them and rarely listen to them now. Those are really the only changes in my music taste that has happened. Everything I listen to now, I've been listening to it since early high school.

Early teens - mainstream rap & hip-hop Late teens - Christian rock At this time, I enjoy all the meats of our cultural stew, but a lot less of the two genres above. Primarily, I now listen to classic rock, folk music, and several different types of "indie."

At 7 - 11 years old i listened to mostly punk and ska, with a bit of pop. 12 - 14 i got into alternative rock and a bit of emo without realising. 15 - 17(present) i've been listening to variety of rock; but mostly indie, metal and classic.

pop punk (simple plan) - nu metal (linkin park) - emo (hawthorne heights) - random pop/rock acts (coldplay, gorillaz, the foo fighters, counting crows) - grunge (nirvana) - classic rock (the beatles , pink floyd, led zeppelin) - metal/thrash metal (sabbath, priest, metallica) - death metal (necrophagist, behemoth) - industrial (skinny puppy, throbbing gristle, frontline assembly) - post punk (the cure, joy divison) - punk rock (mostly 90s bands like rancid, nofx, bad religion but also older bands like the sex pistols) nowadays i listen to anything that i liked at one point or another but ive dropped pop punk, emo, and grunge. my favorites out off all are metal/thrash metal, industrial, and punk rock.

I started out with Linkin Park and 30 seconds to mars, but as time went by it got heavier :P Currently listening a lot to Trivium, Gojira, All That Remains, but also Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus which differs greatly from the 3 previous bands I mentioned. Trivium, Gojira and All that remains is the closest thing I get to yelling and screaming. Don't want to get any closer either.

I used to only listen to rap, R&B and gasp *50 Cent*. I even bought into the gimmick Southern artists like Chingy and Nelly. I was thoroughly brainwashed by the radio and BET. Nowadays, I listen to a good mix of Rock, Hip-Hop, and R&B, even recently going into Metal and New Wave (The Buggles and a-ha). The stuff I avoid now are commerical Hip-Hop, Auto-Tune artists and generic Punk-pop and Emo bands.

Used to like rap/hip-hop. The new generation has made me hate it, I just listen to techno/rock(alt and all that stuff) and metal.

I've been listening to more Brutal, Technical and Melodic Death Metal than I have in recent memory. I am also regaining a little bit of my Black Metal intrigue, but thus far it has only been Emperor, Summoning, Anaal Nathrakh, and Nachtmystium

A big part of what changed my musical tastes was my own musicianship. The Piano introduced me to Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. You are not a music fan unless you are familiar with the true classics. Voice has been similar, as it's given me incentive to look into opera.

I went from being open, like a sponge in my young age but, I guess it was because, at the time, we weren't exposed to a good portion of the 'bad' commercial music (thank you AFN radio). But, when I got back to the states, I used to hate everything but Jazz. Rock got stale, pop was irritating and hip hop (all on the radio, mind you) was a general disappointment (Seriously. Whistle While You Twurk?). And this was all while ignoring the fact that I had my father's collection at my fingertips. Only when I grew up (mentally and emotionally as well as physically) did I finally learn to just explore and let the music be. I couldn't be happier with my collection as a result.

2-3 years ago I was listening to Slipknot and Trivium. Now I listen to real metal, good metalcore, good rap, good rock, I acknowledged Led Zeppelin as being awesome and overcame the idea that "older music sucks" and lately I've been listening to some jazz :DDivergeUnify
I found two flaws in what you said. Trivium and Slipknot is real metal, they just may not be the metal you like. Trivium is actually good though, and I don't mind Slipknot. 2nd, good rap? Nah.

Good rap? Yes, definitely. You gotta dig out the old-school stuff. Not a fan of the so called "Golden Age" of Rap myself, but the oldies are just awesome.

I started off listening to nothing but Motown, then I found Green Day, which then led me to listen to a lot of punk music. I used to hate metal, and pretty much everything that wasn't punk or pop/punk. I was so stupid. Now, I listen to so much music, from so many genres. classical to heavy metal, techno to punk. I love music, and I never hate on any kind of music.

I used to listen to mainstream pop a lot. Now, I like techno, which does explain why I like rap, today's mainstream pop(seriously, it's fused with techno now, especially with artists like Katy Perry dominating the genre), and I enjoy some forms of rock, but lately I've been looking for something loud involving rock, which means I may start looking into metal soon.

I used to only like what was "popular," but now I just listen to everything really in terms of genre. I don't really have a true favorite band/singer, just some that I listen to more than others. I go through phases. I'll listen to someone for awhile, then move onto someone else that catches my attention.

Not at all, I've always been a classic rock fan. AC/DC, Aerosmith, whatever.
