I'm not really erudite enough to know about anything non-mainstream, so not really thrilled.
However Stoen Temple Pilots reforming is the bset news I have ever had. Except for one time when my now ex-GF announced she would sleep with me - SOBER!!!
I have to admit, music this year has been a bit horrible! I still listen to old music, AC/DC, Disturbed, Hed PE, Godsmack, Seether, Slipknot, Trzeci Wymiar, Amatory..and some others
Only Cd's I got this year were the newest cd from The Birthday Massacre, Ice Planet from Minus the Bear, In Rainbows from Radiohead and some cd from the Gorillaz (can't remember the name of the cd and I'm too lazy to check). Not sure if any of those came out in 2008 though, but I liked all of them anyway.
2008's been awesome, man, the crown gem being Warrel Dane's (from Nevermore) solo album Praises to the War Machine. But we've also had Opeth's Watershed, Iced Earth's Crucible of Man (with Matt Barlow back, it was physically impossible to suck), Draconian's Turning Season Within, and Metallica's return to actual metal with Death Magnetic.

I completely forgot about Warrel Dane's album. Also the newest Testament album was pretty awesome.
Pretty good, so far. Metallica's "Death Magnetic, Coldplay's "Viva la Vida," and Nine Inch Nail's "The Slip" were all fantstic albums. Of course, we still have a new AC/DC album, a new Queen album, and a new U2 album.
The only recently released music I've looked at is Eric Claptons most recent Cd. I don't listen to any recent artists. I don't like their music style.ferrari2001
That's a pretty broad statement. You say that as if every recent artist has the same music style.
Good but not outstanding. Deicide's new album is fantastic but that's the only one I liked this year. Next year'll be better because of Cannibal Corpse and Cattle Decapitation's new albums
2008 is weirding me out hard and I'm loving it. Labels like not not fun, hanson, ppm, hospital, and deathbomb arc are putting out some really out stuff, southern lord is keeping it heavy with new boris and sunnO))) side stuff. Sub Pop is as good as they ever have been with the new No Age record, Blitzen Trapper, and the totally awesome new singles club, with singles from Om and Mika Miko the last two months. Live action has been constant and constantly good, loads of good bands playing good shows. 2008 rules hard.
2009 is set to blow minds too, new Sonic Youth, which means new sonic youth TOUR. Get psyched.

Problem is, people who say 2008 is a bad year for music dont really look for good bands. There are tons of great bands that released CD's this year if people would actually look for them. Primal Scream also hhad a new CD this year that I liked alot.
well, disturbed's new stuff was an ear orgasm, slip knots new stuff was pretty decent, death magnetic was better then st anger so that means its a pass, so over all its been pretty good imo, if the killers new cd is good then this year will be a success for music imo
The Bedlam in Goliath was awesome Fortress was awesome One Day as a Lion EP is awesome MGS4 soundtrack, not as good as 3, but still awesome 01011001 is awesome Eternal Kingdom is pretty cool Darkness and Starlight is pretty cool
New Muse, Radiohead, and Nine Inch Nails. (well Muse was live, so nothing really new, but it's still amazing) That's all I need for a perfect year in music, and it happened!:D
Plus other, newer bands came out with some pretty great stuff.
The only CD I've gotten so far is Holographic Universe from Scar Symmetry and it's pretty good :D
This weekend I'm hopefully going to pick up Fortress from Protest the Hero

I bought Fortress over the summer. Its pretty good. My only complaint is that many of the songs sound similair to each other. I liked Kezia more. But my favorite song off the album is wretch
