How is it possible that those who suffer from delusional disorder believe in such bizzare ideas?

an example that is seen in some delsuional cases, is that the person believes that aliens are talking to him/her or sending information.

more examples from wiki

  • Grandiose type: delusion of inflated worth, power, knowledge, identity or believes himself/herself to be a famous person, claiming the actual person is an impostor or an impersonator.
    • Persecutory type: This delusion is a common subtype. It includes the belief that the person (or someone to whom the person is close) is being malevolently treated in some way. The patient may believe that he/she has been drugged, spied-on, harassed and so on and may seek "justice" by making police reports, taking court action or even acting violently

how is it possible to believe in someting so bizzare.

the only delusional ones are the ones who don't believe that aliens exist and don't attempt to communicate with humans.

Most people are delusional to some capacity, it's just the extremes that catch attention.

Brain chemistry is quite powerful. Fvck it up even a little bit and the results are going to be obvious.

This is. Good place to get answers. I'm sure a large portion of OT are psychologist, psychiatrists, and neurologist.

It's brain chemistry...disorders...it isen't like they mean to be that way. I have a 'disorder' granted im not the omg aliens took me and probbed me kind just a personality disorder where i get pretty paranoid and anxious easily but when it comes to more everyday things. i cant help it a lot of the time. its just my brain being a **** up thing. Meds/behaviour therapy can help change the brain chemistry but people a lot of the time just cant help it.

This. It's all about their brain chemistry that's imbalanced and that can't simply be thought away. It's like how people with OCD can have involuntary thoughts. You can't think these disorders away as, while I suppose thinking can somewhat change the chemistry in your brain, it will never permanently undo the imbalance in your brain that you are suffering when you have such a disorder. Meds, however, can stabilize a person's brain chemistry if they have schizophrenia, for example. It will never cure them but it will make the thoughts they have less intrusive. *Their of delusions of persecusion or grandeur, for example, can be made less intrusive.
