I remember when it first came out and I heard it had a lot of problems.

Is it any better now?

Should I make the plunge or should I stick with XP?

Stick with XP until you need a new OS.

It works fine, but still somewhat of a resource hog.

I have absolutely no problems with Windows Vista. I think everyone is safe to get it.

I agree, it's because of ignorance. Yesterday at college I heard that people prefer Office 2003 than 2007, I was absolutely stunned, and they say it's because Office 2007 is so different, oh for god's sake! Why not they take time and get used to it? I find Office 2007 easier and neater; I work better with the latest stuff. Ignorant people is very annoying and hurts the modern world.

Agreed. I had so many BSOD with 2 different copies of XP and NONE with Vista.

The two reasons I haven't upgraded to Vista:

1. It drops support for the classic Joystick port, and I still use my joystick port for my Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro joystick for my flight sims.

2. It drops 16-bit support and I sometimes play older games.

I could dual-boot but I just can't justify buying Vista. There's nothing having Vista would change for me. With Windows 7 so close, may as well just wait.

Vista has been great for at least 14 months now. Third parties just needed time to get their act together, is all.

Vista is a much better OS than XP. I don't get why some people and businesses stick with XP... :?

It's actually not a bad OS; it just gets a lot of unwarranted criticism from the days when it had more serious problems. My recommendation is that you stick with XP for now (as long as it's working fine for you) and look into switching to Windows 7 when it comes out. Windows 7 is supposed to, in its beta stage, already be at least as good as XP and Vista, in terms of performance. I'm planning to download the RC on Tuesday :D.

I'd be using Windows 98 SE if still I could, if it weren't so unstable or unusable / unsupportable now. ME was a bloated 98 SE.

XP is still a very venerable supported OS. Use it for as long as you can.

Stay away from Vista and don't let the technology pushing mongers here sway you otherwise. Ignornance is bliss sometimes. I still think Analog, however crude it was, is a better form than "tiling" Digital. heh.

Battlestar Galactica never upgraded and survived a technology driven holocaust!

I'm using it now. The problems were really over-hyped. But then again I know next to nothing about computer mechanics.

I still have XP, because I don't think my computer can even run Vista. I do have the Vista transformation back installed so I at least get all the cool aesthetics of Vista.

Stick with XP until Windows 7 comes. Vista is better than it was on its early days but I occasionally have some issues with it.

Vista is stable. I don't like how much memory it uses, but that's okay.

if you've got 2 gigs of RAM or more and a decent processor, Vista is great.

It's even bigger crap than ever, it's constantly deleting some of it's system files. So I decided to buy a mac book - it's way better and more expensive, but anyway I like it.

service pack 1 fixed alot of its stability issues, as does abit of tweaking its settings. compatibility issues with older software/drivers are still there.

though there's probably not much you're going to need unless you want to run vista-only games, so i would probably wait for windows 7.

obv. don't change to vista now if you're on a comp which has less than 2gb ram and only a single core processor.

I had Vista 64 bit and XP 32 bit last summer. I stopped using Vista because I was not happy with the framerate it gave in games. I have a quead core processor and 8 gigs of RAM and was hoping 64 bit OS will improve performance but was let down, mainly due to there isn't much out there that made use of it. What I was disappointed at was that for example; in WoW . A place where I would get 100+ fps , I got like 75 fps, its still great but I was not happy losing 25% fps especially on heavy games like Crysis. Can anyone confirm me that at this point, Vista 64 is very well optimised and won't cost a reduction in fps rather than gain?
