Coming from an 8-12 hour time difference it usually takes me 2-3 days to get adjusted, make sure you don't let them take naps during the day, get them up when you get up and make them go to bed when you go to bed.

Unless he's a wussy boy, it shouldn't last more than 5 minutes...he should be fine by baggage claim.

Varies widely from the person and how accustomed they are to it; I'd be shocked if your friend wasn't re-acclimated by the weekend. If he says he's too jetlagged to hang by the weekend, he's probably just ditching you.

Like if you caught a nasty cold or if you are recovering from a bad case of IBS, you feel lethargic.

I don't understand why people complain about jetlag. I've been on many long flights and I readjust almost immediately.

For me, I usually just sleep-deprive myself ahead of the trip so that I'm exhausted by the time night comes around wherever I'm traveling, and the first morning I wake up, I'm on the schedule of wherever I've gone. Even worked when going from Atlanta to Tokyo.

Coming back from china took me about 4-5 days to fully recover from the jetlag. You basically feel like a stool sample.
