A lot of people DO publicly announce either planned criminal actions, or criminal actions that have already been committed.

Yeah, I'll talk about something I've done, but I would never reveal any intentions to something I plan to do.

All it takes is one motivated, well-trained loser with a sniper rifle.

If some creepy internet DID kill the president, and it was discovered that the FBI knew about it but refused to act, I can guarantee that there'd be hell to pay.

That's obviously not to say that the FBI can or will investigate all such threats, but they sure as hell shouldn't overlook a potential threat just because someone posted it on Gamespot. Of course, I can't say much more about the appropriateness of an FBI investigation without seeing the thread in question.

no, they still can investigate. but why would the FBI come up to you and ask you, "ah...btw, we heard you're going to kill the president. is that true?" it's an investigation, not an interview. what im trying to say is, that FBI is better than that. aka this kid's story fails.

If the FBI thinks you're worth investigating, they're gonna talk to you in person. Unless there's some very clear evidence that you are planning on killing the president, they're not just going to arrest you and lock you up without first doing some preliminary questioning.

you didnt read what i wrote. >_>

If you're speculating about the precise nature of the conversation, the TC never even mentioned the exact conversation. In which case you're operating on pure speculation.

Fact is, you don't know exactly what was said.

Yeah, and? You weren't the one who was being investigated. What YOU would do is hardly relevant, is it?

I was adding to your point is all.

If I stole something, I would tell peple I stole it if they asked, but I wouldn't tell them I plan on stealing something if they asked me before I stole it.

And I don't think the FBI has any interest in what I do, I'm not a radical or anything.

How many of you have been investigated by FBI due to online threads?

I wrote a thread regarding "killing Bush" recently, and I was just playing a joke. However, I was visited by 2 FBI agents, and they asked me about why I was doing it.

I felt extremely rediculous, you know, why do American FBI agents care so much? I mean come on it is a joke, why wasing to much energy on investigating someone for this? That is just plain naive.

How many of you have been investigated by FBI for your online threats, which were plain jokes, before? And how serious the case will it be if just joking?

I don't think the FBI would talk to you.  They would find out things about you.  Like where you work, where you go to school, and your recent purchases.  Lets say you purchased and high powered rifle with a scope before the post.  Yeah if you did that then they may talk to you.

The fact of the matter is that a threat is a threat, whether it was a joke or not. In fact what you did was a crime. Threatning someone with bodily harm is a crime in this country. Besides, I'd rather we err on the side of caution in a situation like this. It's not like the FBI conducting a small investigation is violating anyone's rights.

P.S. Threats are not protected by the First Amendement.

That's why you're not on the FBI. If you'd waste months trying to dig up dirt about someone who made an inappropriate remark on the internet (and coming up empty-handed) when you could've just gone and talked to the guy, then I doubt you'd make a very good agent.

Do you think that the FBI has unlimited resources? It's one thing to check the guy out, it's another thing entirely to launch a full scale investigation that's clearly not going anywhere, and wasting resources that'd be better put to use elsewhere.

Well, The FBI didn't see it as a joke. I read something about a girl who wrote something about Bush in her Myspace...and she got taken out of school and interrogated for 10-15 minutes before they let her go. I really have no opinion on the matter. I don't know how productive these sort of investigations have been

As much as I dislike President Bush, I'd never say that. And no, I've never been personally spoken to by the FBI for anything, in fact, the worst run in with the law I've had was Jaywalking when I didn't wait for the stop light and a cop yelled at me when I was like 14.

Your countrys freedom of speech doesn't sound too.. free. :lol:diablo_human

Apparently, you do not understand what "Freedom of Speech" is. A person cannot be stopped from saying anything he or she wants aslong as the speech does not cause immediate harm to those around him or her. While what he said was a joke...how would the FBI know? sarcasm does not translate through a computer screen. Besides all they did was ask him a few questions... His rights are not being restricted

If someone here sais "ZOMG I'm gonnas kill teh president" and an agent takes him seriously, I have no idea how someone that... brilliant would get to that poission  Besides, if someone really intended to do that, he wouldn't be bragging about it here... You can't take threats too lightly... especially threats on the internet. You have no real idea who the person is, you might have a small grasp of their beliefs but you can easily fake it over the internet.

Fact is, you don't know exactly what was said.

there, you changed the subject again. that point im saying is, his story is fake. but you keep thinking im talking about what the FBI would do. i don't care what the FBI does. that's not the point. the point is, the kid lying. ill say it again since you don't seem to understand, THIS KID IS LYING.

Although this reminds me of a kid in my highschool that made a joke about killing the president.  He ended up getting expelled or something like that (I was in jr high at the time).  Of course this was back in when Clinton was president, and Clinton was actually going to be visiting the school.

Anyway the reason the FBI does checks on this sort of thing isn't to check and see if there's an actual threat but more as a scare tatic to let people know they are monitoring things and that you have no privacy.  I saw the same thing when I was in Burma/Myanmar, they would have plain clothed government agents listen in on conversations.  They weren't sly about it because they wanted the public to know they were under close watch by the government.

I'm sure they are really suspicious of a forum full of horny teenagers posting, "OmG guyz how Do i get dis girl!!?!1111"

Why else would they create the Patriot Act?

[QUOTE="jointed"]

[QUOTE="JapaneseLeader"][QUOTE="Caffeine_Trip"]They didn't visit you, stop lying. I wrote threads about bombing the capitol, I didn't see any agents show up at my door.JapaneseLeader

They did!!! I amde that joke on MySpace those 2 FBI agents did knock on my door rudely in the morning and talked to me about that case. Why couldn't they ring the bell instead? Are American FIB that rude?

ok let me get this straight.....

You live in America, the FBI couldnt come and visit you otherwise, but you refer to them as "Americans" and your name is JapaneseLeader and you've made many in-direct anti-west threads before....

your credibility in my opinion = 0

Sir, I don't understand your saying. I made that joke on MySpace webpage, and I was visited by two FBI agents. One of them did take pictures of me and have my finger prined on the paper. My parents were frustrated with this case to death We cannot even eat well recently so if the next time I tell them I DID this, and I was just joking, what will be the result? Because of this visiting, I do not feel comfortable posing in American sites now. The lawyer I visited days ago told me that this case will not get out of hand, but children porns will?

you said "are american FBI this rude" all FBI is american FBI, they dont leave the country!!! this story is so damn fake

His parents must not have been home when the FBI agents showed up. Because I know that if I was a kid and the FBI showed up at my home because of something I typed on the internet, my parent's would've beaten my ass. Then they'd burn my computer.
