How many people actually listen to music advice on OT?

There are hundreds of music topics on OT. Hundreds of people have music based sigs, like me for example. But a serious question is, have any of the things people post about bands in music threads or the bands in people's sigs ever actually influenced you to go out and search for that music? Also have you ever discovered bands through Off Topic's suggestions and sigs.

I know I bought an Arcade Fire album because of a recommendation on this board, but that is all really.

Can't say that I've ever been influenced. I guess I don't think I need any help finding music that I like.

I don't because I know most of the users here have far different tastes then me. Besides I have other ways to find music I like then randomly asking people on forums.

I used to see someone with a flyleaf sig so I dl'ed a few songs from them. LJS and his sig got me into the Cure

If the suggestion is something that I'm already interesed in ie. A Nirvana song I've never heard from some demo from the 80s. But most musical suggestions on off topic are just random bands that have no real support, underground if you will, and makes people feel superior in musical knowledge when they post such things.

A lot of the more obscure rap and metal I listen to has been recommended to me here on OT. I don't really need it anymore though, now I have lastfm :)

I don't because no one listens to what I listen to.

When someone asks for a recommendation, I just search on Last.Fm and give a link to the recommendations of the users who listen to the certain band.

Well I don't know if I just jumped out and bought an album but if people provide links I'll give it a listen. Always nice to expand on the amount of artists one listens to.

I used to be obsessed with the Cure, and I would never have heard them at all were it not for OT liking them so much. I'm saying them on the 22nd.

I've started some topics asking for suggestions on certain types of music. Helped me find some great new bands. I'm actually listening to a band right now that somebody on GS reccomended to me. So yes.

Well, not really. Very rarely is some obscure jazz artist mentioned that I haven't atleast heard of, and much less often grow to like.

Not really. If people are discussing an interesting genre, I'll look up some of the artists that were mentioned. And I'll only look up a band in a person's sig if I think they're a good user or I've noticed we have similar taste.

Not really.The most noticable users for music that I like are Samwell and LJS , but I already liked NIN and The Cure before that.

Sometimes I do. LJS9502_basic's constant mentioning of The Cure and the album Disintegration made me listen to it. It was great! I also fell for the constant babbling about TOOL by many users and.. well.. the band wasn't really good at all.

If I see a recommendation, I'll give a listen here and there. Though, most of the artists I've gotten into recently have been from another Music board.
