In 2006, the International Astronomical Union reclassified Pluto as a "dwarf planet", which resulted in lowering our planet count to eight.

If Pluto is a planet there are a few other planets as well around it. They found a bunch of similar sized ones around Pluto hence why they changed the name. I don't have the source atm to prove that but thats what I remember seeing on TV.
Aw here we go
http://windows2universe.org/our_solar_system/dwarf_planets/dwarf_planets.html
So if Pluto is still a planet you can't actually vote 9 as in your poll. You have to vote that there are 13 planets and they still think there could be up to another 200 dwarf planets out there.
This reminded me about how there's going to be two moons on August 27th. I don't know why it did :|

That would be pretty cool. Until it screws with our tides and causes mass global flooding and the apocalypse.
Oh yes, I went there.

It's actually just going to make our planet more susceptible to the Warp. Causing mass mutations and daemonic possessions.
Scientists cant figure out if milk or eggs are good or bad.. They are like No its not good for you, Well actually yes it is.. Well it turns out 1% milk and the yoke of the egg is good but whole milk and the white of the eggs are bad! @$%@#$@#$@#!!!!! WTF MAKE UP YOUR MINDS. How do we know they wont turn around and say it is a planet again?
9, because I lived most of my life with the knowledge of Pluto as #9 damnit! :x

Here are the three criteria the IAU came up with in 2006 for an object to be called a planet:
1. The object must be in orbit around the Sun.
2. The object must be massive enough to be a sphere by its own gravitational force. More specifically, its own gravity should pull it into a shape of hydrostatic equilibrium.
3. It must have cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.
Alan Stern, principal investigator with NASA's New Horizons mission to Pluto, has publicly derided the IAU resolution, stating that "the definition stinks, for technical reasons." Stern's contention is that by the terms of the new definition Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Neptune, all of which share their orbits with asteroids, would be excluded.

I didn't know this was a matter of "opinion." The scientific consensus is that Pluto and Charon (amongst other dwarf planets in our SS, bigger than Pluto) don't fall into the necessary category to be considered a "planet." And what about all those objects other than Pluto and Charon that we've been discovering... are they supposed to be planets too?
That is why man invented shotguns.

We're all doomed until the Emperor of Mankind comes and invents boltguns. Then we'll be saved.:P

But I wanna hide in a basement with a tinfoil hat, a combat shotgun and enough shells to hold off an army. :(
As many as the IAU tells me as long as they provide reasonable ground for their claims. They have the PhD's and other degrees in astronomy and astrophysics, not me.

I believe I read somewhere that it has the possibility of turning our planet inside out.I didn't know this was a matter of "opinion." It's actually Mars but it will appear to be the same size as our moon.

Oh, that's what you meant by two moons. I thought you meant the whole thing I heard about the moon splitting in half due to some gant cracks.
If you include Pluto then you must include the other 3-4 dwarf planets tso 9 would never be an answer. It's either 8 or 12(forgot the number of dwarf planets)
Just researched it and 5 dwarf planets have been discovered. Eris which is one of the is even bigger than Pluto.
Nope, only we have 9 planets cause I said so. Thats that.carrot-cake

Speaking of which, schools had to update their science textbooks to accomodate this revelation. Anyone remember the old mnemonic sentence for remembering the planets? My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas. What mnemonic sentence should we use now?UT_Wrestler
Take off Pizzas and leave the rest to imagination.

Alan Stern is involved with a satellite fly-by of Pluto, which will occur in 2015. He disagrees with the IAU's third criteria for calling a planet.

Remembering the order of planets is completely useless anyway.
