Well, Actually i have never taken a foreign language in school, what I have done is that I learned English by myself, not need of books or teachers. I think the main reason why I learned English it's because of video games, because when I was a child and played games (most of them are in english) I always wanted to understand what was going on in the game, so this led me to learn english unconsciously. In school we had an english subject but it was very shallow, and as time went on I ended up knowing more than my teacher in 9th grade. BTW my main language is Spanish, I'm from Peru. So for anyone out there: Do you think I speak english well? :P
EDIT: And to all of you OT posters: Learn spanish, is a beatiful language, though a bit difficult on the beginning.
Dos pero yo estudio cuatro anos. In english 2 is needed for college but I am taking 4 up to AP (I am a freshman in Spanish 1 now) so I can get into a good school like Notre Dame or Duke.
At my school you have to take two courses of the same foreign language in order to graduate. We have a block schedule (four different classes per semester, each 90 minutes long) so we just have to technically take a year to get out of high school. I've taken Spanish I Honors already this semester, and next semester I'm taking Spanish II Honors. Then I'm done until college which is basically two years away. :D
