I was watching speakers corner (canadian show) and this american kid comes on and says something along the lines of:

I'm sick of Canadians assuming americans know nothing about Canada when in fact we know a lot

We know that you guys have 12 STATES, that Tim Hortons is our 'President', that Toronto is the capital of Canada NOT OTTAWA and that we speak french, when thats really only true for Quebec, or as I call them seperatist (bad word)

Are all of you americans like this?

Im happy you mentioned this cause my economics teacher mentioned that teen smoking was down 6 percent this year because the tax on ciggarettes is getting to high.

So good luck with you and your cancer in 15 years, you can thank your government for making smokes so cheap, maybe if they charged a little more a lot more people would cut down and maybe even quit....

I love Canada. If anyone ever gets the chance to go, do it.

I went a few years ago with my friends.

Me and my girlfriend at the time (now my ex) went to Montreal for a little weekend getaway just over the summer, and we had a BLAST. Montreal was the city of romance that weekend. (GIGGITY!!!)

thats very modest of you but american politics is nearly as popular as canadian politics here, I doubt you guys know about any canadian news networks. Plus most of our media comes from America, you guys get none of ours cause ours really does suck, and again your pop culture is more interesting than ours, I bet you couldn't name 10 canadian artists. I could probably name 100 american though.

Again very modest (more like IGNORANT) of you but.. :| NO

You can't just say "Americans" because if you make an average on what the average American knows about Canada, you'll get the average of the loads of people who live nowhere near Canada and inevitably won't figure much out about Canada. The case with you guys though is most Canadians live a short car ride away from our border, so the average Canadian would know more about America than vise versa because of that. For instance someone in Texas probably think you guys live in igloos and lack running water, etc. while someone from Washington or Minnesota would know about 200 times as much since they live in states adjacent to Canada.

Anyway I'm from California and I'm one of the rare ones who actually knows about about Canada. (not sure how I can prove I didn't just hit Wikipedia before writing this, but it's all by memory)...

  • Prime Minister: Steven Harper (or is it Stephen?)
  • Gained independence from the UK in 1867
  • 10 provinces and 3 territories
  • has a French speaking province called Quebec
  • has magnetic north on your Baffin Island up in the Arctic (in your national anthem I believe)
  • population of about 33 million,
  • uses metric instead of the imperial system
  • proud of it's diversity and peace keeping stuff, many for "not being American".

Those are the essential ones...

That's lame/10. Here in America we have something called a free market, meaning that tobacco companies have the right to compete for consumers and consumers have the right to continue paying low prices to smoke. We would much prefer to keep money in our pockets rather than letting the government steal it in order to "help" smokers whom we don't really care about.

What, CBC?
Canadian artists? K-Os, Bryan Adams, Buck 65, Celine Dion, Kardinal Offishall, Avril, Shania Twain. Close enough to 10 :P

Canadian news isn't as well documented in America, as American news is in Canada. Also, I believe that Americans don't learn too much about Candian history (don't jump all over me, it's just what I was told in my social studies class years ago) However, that's not to say Americans don't know much about our country.
