Are some of you so desperate to be fluent in it that it's worth like two languages for you?

Not much really. What am I going to do with the Japanese language?
Spanish/Arabic would be a much better language to acquire.
Me too oddly enough, which is weird since I have no desire to visit Russia. >.>I prefer to learn russian instead.

I don't see much reason to value any particular language more than any other..
EMOEVOLUTION
Whatever the dominate language is becomes the most valuable. However, technology will eventaully make learning more than one language obsolete.
I only know how to say Banzai, Kamekazi, and Egg Roll :? So I guess I am not eager to learn. I want to learn German though. That or Russian
I prefer to learn russian instead.

Has the hammer and sickle on the front and everything.
I dont place that much value on it. I'd rather learn a more useful language based on the world economy such as chinese. Japanese is only spoken by a small fraction of the world's population. Doesnt have that much use outside of Japan.
This strikes me as a really weird topic for some reason.
Anyway, I'd like to know Japanese, I just don't care enough to learn it.
Also, I took two years of it in school, so I know a little. I'll catch phrases when I hear it spoken, but I don't come close to understanding normal speech.
I'm definitely not one of those people you describe TC. I would only vacation anywhere overseas if I could afford it five times over, so if it was a possibility that I may go to Japan or for occupational reasons have to speak Japanese, then I might consider it more important.
the most valuable language to me is the one of my Ancestors, which is German.
Japanese is kind of middle ground, I'd learn it simply for it's diverse and interesting history, although in the modern world Chinese is probably more practical (it'll wind up like that show FireFly, I'm sure it will. for those not in the know, 500 years in the future there were only 2 languages, Chinese and English)
have zero interest in spanish, so it as a language holds no value (personally) to me. Portuegese though is a different story.
I have no desire to learn it. I can't think of many scenarios in my daily life where it would be useful.
