Audio is like the 2nd most important aspect in making a good film.

The extent of the importance varies between films, but it is a key aspect. If you want to see how amazing music can be in a film just watch A Clockwork Orange.

The right music can make a movie perfect. Imagine Star Wars with pop music instead of John William's score.

But if not many people listen to orchestrated music on their own times, then how can good movie music make everyone feel good? Does that average person who watches movies even notice amazing and powerful scores playing? Does it move them emotionally, even if they only subconsiously notice it?

Yeh, that includes choosing the right music for the right moment, or not using music for a moment at all. I hate it when there's a dramatic scene and some cheesy music comes up to try to over-dramatize it. :(

Because the music is used to emphasise the visual image. I don't think you could help noticing the music when it's used well, like in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", to give another example.

Or even 2001 on this matter. The classical music was integral in my humble opinion. Kubrick was a master of music in this regard.

I certainly can't think of anyone who has used music to better effect.

Depends on the movie. Some don't need it and some really do. In most cases I'd say it's one of the most important ingredients of a movie.

Optimus Prime vs. Megatron? I doubt that would have been quite as epic if 'Close to Me' was on in the background. :P

Good music can really help a movie... bad music can really ruin one though. There are movies though that have no music, and yet they're not bad in any aspect because of the lack of it. Think about No Country for Old Men, virtually no music in it.

Music doesn't effect anything, but it does affect a film greatly.

You're right about it being able to ruin movies. The god awful score in There will be Blood basically ruined the entire film for me. Same with The Shining.
