[QUOTE="Genetic_Code"]When I was a Christian, I read all of it in order. I became an atheist a week or so after having finished reading the Bible.Funky_LlamaPart of me is surprised that you got through Leviticus with your faith intact. :P I had some personal qualms, but ultimately I just assumed God knew better than man, and regardless of how sexuality is viewed in society, God's judgment is superior. That, and I don't like judging a book until I've read it in its entirety.
topic.BoostinsaneI mainly read about it, but I dont read it like a "get through the bible in 1 year" plan, just for my apologetics study.
No, but I do know more about it than your average Christian, oddly enough.Video_Game_KingOT will do that to you. :P
All of it several times. But I haven't done the run-through for a while now.pianistWhat did you get out of it?
This one time I ran out of toilet paperlinks136I almost contemplated using it for a mouse pad, but I found a copy of the Wall Street Journal.
I have read the entire bible. I wouldn't suggest doing it. It is better to read bits and pieces of it, not like a story book. stupid4I agree. I sort of think the only reason I continued reading the Bible in order was for bragging rights mostly. That, and I thought of myself as a devoted Christian, but the latter proved false.

I found it rather interesting. Even though I don't believe the supernatural aspects of it are real, it does give you a peek into ancient civilization - and perhaps a better appreciation for how far we've come. And despite the many despicable, unforgivable acts and ideas described, there are also quite a few lessons in the Bible that would make the world a better place if people followed them.
As others have wrote, it's not an especially compelling read, nor is it especially beautifully written, but then it was never intended to be entertainment. It was more like the diary of a faith.
Enough to be made an atheist by it. I would like to read the whole thing mind you, a scholarly translation though, from the Greek/Hebrew originals. Not a "reinterpretation" like the King James.foxhound_fox
But haven't you heard? The King James is the only 'God-endorsed' translation in existence. All other translations are blasphemous.
I'm surprised how many people here do not read the Bible but in religous topics claim they understand what Christianity is.foolio_67
That surprised me, too. Almost as much as the guys that claimed that the Bible is boring and poorly written, yet admitted to reading only the first paragraph.

The entire thing many many years ago. It turned me atheist.
Oh and I read bits of the muslim and jewish desert texts when I wrote one of my term papers against abrahamic religions
