I'm going to be honest with you, and be respectful, even though you came off as a complete jerk in this post. I did get a scholarship, I am not a dummy. The price of the college I want to attend, and the one I was attending, are around the same price point. You do not understand, when I say cheap, I mean cheap. I know this sounds like I am being a spoiled brat, but honest to goodness, it is more than that. To put this bluntly, he does not do things for me. I don't mean buying me stuff, material things honest to goodness mean nothing to me. What I mean is that he does everything for his benefit, and puts a spin on it to make himself look like some sort of hero. Ok, I know this sounds bad and makes me sound like a spoiled brat and horrible person, and that I am whiny, but it is hard to understand what I am trying to convey without experiencing it. The man acts like a martyr, when in reality he makes a ton of money, I am talking about 250+k annually. But he doesn't help my family. Despite making more than the most of the population, we live in a **** shack. He puts none of his money into our family. We have so many problems that he just avoids. He refuses to buy groceries, so my mother who makes very little has to support us. He doesn't save any of the money, and he doesn't have any vices such as gambling or alcoholism. My mother and I both believe that he has a second family, but she doesn't say anything because she has had a hard life and doesn't feel like dealing with this at her old age. She knows this because she has read his emails. Don't even try to make a case against this. Cheating is a worse offense than reading another person's email. I don't say anything or bring it up because my mother would be upset. But I just want yall to know, that as it may sound like I am a spoiled brat, there is more to it than that. I am tired and I probably left out info, but so be it. If you want to believe that I am a bad person, and a sociopath, well so be it. But I have my reasons for my actions.Wait your dad is cheap or just doesn't want to send a spoiled brat who didn't get a scholarship across the country to an expensive university? If you weren't abused growing up then you just sound like a horrible person for not caring about not seeing your faimly ever again. If you insist on California, then take two years at a local community college while working a part time job and save your own money to move to California.

See if Nintendo is having a Super Mario Bros. 3 contest there and have the only notable word that comes out of your mouth to be "California."
Also, remember to find a guy who has a Power Glove and a copy of Rad Racer. This is important.
Then, go to the gaming competition, win it, and have a trivial resolution to your familial problems while you ride off into the distance.
I no longer can take the topic seriously. Well played, sir.

Every single aspect of it has been super cereal. :o
This. I'm moving to the south (like Texas) the first chance I get. God, how I hate California!Funny. I can't wait to run away from CA. You'll be clawing your way back home when the cost of living and the resulting low quality of life here hits you.

You had me up until growing Mary Jane for a living.
Honestly, after all the jerkwads, not just on here, but yahoo answers as well, I might just go back to school. People are such aholes, it is unbelievable. I try to be courteous, but some people lack compassion. I actually went to a great agricultural school, one of the best in the nation. And I am still technically a student there, so I could go back. Now I have a plan, hear me out. I get a degree in horticultural services. With that degree, I will move to California, take some classes at Oaksterdam(not a real school I know, but they have classes.) and I will start growing marijuana while I pursue my other dreams. Now how does that sound? You guys helped me realize that I am not in a position to move right now. I need to procure some money, and some job experience. TonyDanzaFan
Always glad to be of service.

Don't listen to all these people. California is great. The only reason they hate it is because they've lived here all their life and are bored of it.
The problem is, they don't hate CA, they just hate their city. Not all of CA is like it is in LA. Don't go to LA, go more north. A lot of places are pretty expensive but depending where you're at, the prices change. The weather is great. If you're by the coast obviously the weather doesn't change as much, and that's a good thing. Then again it's more expensive by the coast.
I don't think you'd be able to live here with only 1000, but if you find a job, and live hand to mouth, you should do ok. Live off Ramen, find a cheap place, try to room with some people. Try to find people that aren't dirtbags.
You should definitely have a drivers license. I don't know how you'd get here without one. Train? Plane? Idk.
If your story is true. I think it would be a really fun experience to just go somewhere and live there starting over. Except you need to make sure that you find a job. Try to figure our where you'll go, organize. Apply online to places near where you want to go, get job interviews, that's when you'll go and hopefully you get a job. Once you get a job, and a house, the rest from there is up to you.
So if you're serious. Good Luck. Don't listen to people about CA, then again there are some other places that would probably be better to stay, just considering that it's hard to get a job.
Hey listen man, we all have those thoughts when we're that age or most of us do anyways. Thoughts about wanting to run off to some place, escape from our families. From what I've heard California is massively expensive so and I hate to be a hump buster here but for you to go there you're going to need two things. Either one very strong source of income or to get into a college somwhere and roomate or dorm. Actually scratch that, you are going to need a bit of both. If you wanna go there just work hard in school and apply for colleges
Good luck to you though! work hard to make it happen, it's not going to be some easy thing where you just run off and magically make it big. You've got to work for it if thats what you really want in life 8)

Sorry for coming off as a jerk-wad but you didn't convey any of that important information in your OP. So when you said you wanted to run away as an 18 year old and dad won't pay for different school across the country and not caring if you ever see your family again it came of as childish. Given all this new info your dad sounds pretty awful. I feel bad for you and hope the best for you and your mom.

Also this sounds like an amazing plan. It's something I've always wanted to do but never felt I was smart enough to study horticulture. Are the courses hard and do they involve a lot of math and chemistry? I've always struggled with math but I'm still interested in changing my major.
Somebody on yahoo answers said I would end up a sex slave/gay porn star. And his answer was 100% serious. That sounds.....painful.TonyDanzaFan

Sorry, I am the one who came off like a jerk in that last post. My apologies. I am not sure about how hard it is, but my sister's boyfriend is currently studying it, and he says that it is not that hard. I have always loved flowers and plants, so it might come natural to me. But that might be the plan I take for the future, while I study acting on the side.Honestly, after all the jerkwads, not just on here, but yahoo answers as well, I might just go back to school. So your plan is to move to Compton, which is already full of drug dealers killing each other over turf, to deal marijuana while awaiting your big break in show business? That sounds absolutely brilliant.

Say what..... I love how everyone views California in this thread, even those who say they live here. Its entertaining to say the least. :lol:There's a huge reason why lots of different cultures, and people from different states come here (more particularly) The Bay Area.... But I say do what you wan't, just have a secure plan. California is expensive but it is an amazing state to live in. Coming here and expecting to make it with no financial, or logistical plan is a really bad idea and would jade your experience completely.
