I think the concept of Hell is much more harmful to a child's mind than reason, logic, and reality ever could be.

Am I missing something? All of the things you just listed can be incredibily enjoyable.

Sex is wonderful.

Alcohol is wonderful.

Drugs can be delightful, so long as you use the right ones.

It is a matter of personal control; gee, I know you have probably never thought of this, but could you imagine the possibiliy that maybe, just maybe, it isn't God's job to make your decisions for you?

It's up to you what you do sexually.

It's up to you how much alcohol you ingest.

It is up to you to decide what kinds of drugs you are going to use.

And it is up to you to define your own moral code: it can mirror the moral code in the Bible as much as you'd like.

You are not a puppet and God is not a puppet master that will make your decisions for you.

If you didn't arrive at your beliefs through reason and careful examination of facts (but rather on blind faith) then you are in no position to begin propagating your own moral code.

But hear me out. I was taking the subway home today and noticed two dubious looking fellows out of the corner of my eye. One of them then approached me and asked if I had a cigarette. I sternly said no because I don't smoke and never will. After staring me down for a few seconds he walked back to his friend. I assume he thought I was lying. So there I was, my heart racing, knowing I might have to defend myself if worst comes to worst. I noticed them staring at me, saying something to eachother. So I just put my head down and put it in god's hands. I said a quick prayer and when I opened my eyes they had left.

Just a small example. Have a little faith, and good things will happen for you..

Well guess what, you don't represent all atheists..I greatly value my freedom in all respects and being told that I'll go to hell because of some rules set down thousands of years ago which have virtually no basis on law today and many of which can be easily considered bigoted, racist, morally disgusting or in other ways that don't make me want to support them.

One thing I've noticed since I've come to college is that I am much happier and guess what? That corresponds with me not going to church much anymore also. Care to explain that one?
