I just read today that Steve Carell just finished filming the season finale of The Office, which for him will be his last episode since he said at the beginning of the season that this would be his last. How will the show proceed without its main character? It would be like Home Improvement without Tim Allen or Married With Children without Ed O'Neil. Do you think the show will survive without him? Who would even take his place? The whole show was about his antics as manager and all the other characters playing off of his awkward stupidity. I just don't see how you can duplicate that character.

Yeah it's a stupid idea to continue without him. The show's run for long enough, they should just end it. It's going to be another Scrubs.

They will clone him, and name the clone Steve Carbell. Steve Carell's character would be replaced by a replacement manager, named Mitchell Gerald Tithington, portrayed by Steve Carbell, and no one has ever seen this character before and will not credit him as the same person, nor question if he is a relative/clone/etc. of Michael. Mitchell, however, will still do the same shenanigans as Michael. Thus stopping a dramatic shift in the show.

I don't know if they could pull off a scenario like that without it feeling ridiculously fake.

Hopefully it won't... I never, ever found The Office funny... ever... and that includes the even more horrible British version...

Steve Carell is annoying and unfunny. American The Office isn't as funny as The Office, but both aren't my kind of funny so I guess that just kills my credibility.

Wait, so he was actually in the season finale? I remember hearing that his last episode would be like the 4th from the last episode, or something like that. As for the show continuing without him, I don't think it's going to go very well. The show itself with him currently is in a pretty weak state IMO, with only a couple episodes this seaon being that funny. For the most part, it seems like they are just relying on Michael and Holly being two retards in a pod basically, and some of the minor characters (Erin, Ryan, even Kevin) are just becoming plain stupid now. Unless they get someone who can totally revitalize the show and make it funny as hell again, then I don't think it will last much longer.

I don't forsee it ending well. It has lost a lot of its steam, which is sad considering it used to be one of my favorite shows.

He just doesn't want people replying to the thread for the sake of saying "Lol The Office sucks" or something similar. I don't want to even try and count the number of times I've heard people slamming the show and raving about how the British version is superior...

I doubt it'll last, if they are that desperate to keep the characters alive they should do a spinoff focusing more on Pam and Jim's homelife, although I suppose at that point it would just become Modern Family.

really is a shame though, the Office is one of my favorite sitcoms out there I'm terrified to see it probably tank.

I heard that as well. They not even replace him, but possibly give someone else in the office Michael's position. I can see that happening, but I'm not sure even if that shoud be a tolerable idea.

EDIT: Last time I post from a cell phone. :P

I think it's mostly the mockumentary slant of the show, though I don't know if I can really put a finger on it. I love stupid humour - I love Monty Python, Black Adder, Arrested Development and even parts of Community. There's just something about The Office that rubs me the wrong way. South Park has the same effect.

The subject of the joke may be different each time, but the way the jokes are told, set up, and punchlined are all the same...

"Something racist without realizing it was racist, but the person who said it is too stupid to realize its racist" *blank stare into camera

"Something sexist without realizing it was sexist, but the person who said it is too stupid to realize its sexist" *blank stare into camera

"Something policically incorrect..." etc, etc, etc...

so it's the blank stare into the camera thing that you don't like then? Because the only character that does that is Jim.

edit: oh and in the early seasons Stanley I guess, but he doesn't seem to show up much anymore....

Man, didn't you think the later seasons of 24 were pretty weak though? I think the last season was better if I remember, but most of the stuff after the 3rd or 4th season started to go downhill. The season with Charles Logan was pretty good too but once the woman became president (I forgot her name) it started going downhill. That show wasn't the same without David Palmer either.

I don't think it will surive another season after he's gone. I see it getting cancelled.

NBC needs to scrap their whole comedy lineup anyway, except for Community. It ranges from mediocre to dreadful. Outsourced might be the worst show since Cavemen.

FIrst of all that is untrue Second of all, almost any show/style of humor/person that lasts any significant amount of time could be generalized in such a way that does not do it justice. Third of all, the show could still go on and be good. Having a different boss could create an entirely new dynamic that makes the show fresh again.

I agree with you when it comes to Outsourced; Outsourced and Perfect Couples simply blow, Community is meh, but Parks and Rec and the Office are still very enjoyable to me, with 30 Rock being ok to good.

Californication...that show's most redeeming quality is the perfect breasts that show up in every episode. I have never laughed while watching it though, or even been interested in the script.

I watched the ENTIRE series last week (ALL 8 seasons) on Netflix. It's the best damn show I've ever watched. Prison Break is the second best. Anyhow, as for "24", I rank the show's seasons in the following order:

1. Season 5

2. Season 4

3. Season 7

4. Season 8

5. Season 6

6. Season 2

7. Season 3

8. Season 1

[spoiler] I think David Palmer was an awesome character, but the seasons in which he was the active President were relatively weak compared to the other ones. The first few seasons of the show were too slow in terms of pacing and they didn't have the huge plot twists and government conspiricies of some of the later seasons (notably season 5). However, there was no "bad" season in my opinion. I enjoyed them all. Each of them has very memorable moments and the series has recurring themes and actions which I enjoy and find funny (such as Jack putting his friends into sleeper holds on numerous occasions, while saying "Don't fight it.", or pointing his gun at someone while saying "If you don't give me this information, millions of people are going to die."). Also, I actually liked Allison Taylor, the female President of the last two seasons. She came across as a very strong and assertive woman, without coming across as an overt femmninist (i.e. a b****). Well what comedies do you like? Curb Your Enthusiasm? It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?

TacticalDesire

Californication, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, South Park, Weeds

Californication...that show's most redeeming quality is the perfect breasts that show up in every episode. I have never laughed while watching it though, or even been interested in the script.

Have you seen the girl they have on there this season? Absolutely amazing rack. Susan Sarandon's daughter too.

The show is hilarious and it has breasts. What more could you ask for?

I'm a day one, die hard fan of The Office. In my opinion I think it's just getting funnier. It doesn't, obviously, have the same shock value as it did in the first 2 seasons but I really enjoy it.

And I know lots of people who "don't get" The Office, as well as South Park. Funny enough, those are two of my favorite shows.

I hope to god it's not Will Ferrel replacing Steve Carell. It's been a long time since I found Will Ferrel funny. Aside from an internal promotion, I would love to see Ricky Gervais, although I don't think that'll happen.

But I think it's unfair to compare this to say the 70's show. This is not a majority cast replacement. Yes, we're taking out the lead character, but to be honest I think that Jim, Dwight, Darrel and Andy alone could carry the show. It should be interesting.
