This nasty hurricane might be hitting the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which is where I live, and bring 100-130 mph winds, and massive flooding.

There has been a mandatory evacuation for tourists on one of the islands of the OBX, and tomorrow it's a mandatory evacuation for the residents of that islands.

Different sources says it could be a weak level 4 hurricane that will hit us to a strong level 3.

It's called Irene?

They should really give hurricanes cooler names.

for the 2005 hurricane season we actually ran out of names and had to use the Greek alphabet and had hurricanes/tropical storms named Epsilon and Zeta

According to my local news there is a band of storms west of us (in the Ohio area) that has cooler air that could push the hurricane away from the coast of NC, and more into the New England area or even away the US altogether

It's probably going to be a weak to high category 1 when it reaches Rhode Island. It will probably fizzle out when it hits Canada. Also the hurricane is expected to get bigger when it reaches that area.

I believe it's something like 60-80 mph winds, heavy rain, some coastal flooding, and low land flooding

I just called my Ma up in VA and she said that she already bought supplies, just in case. The problem is, even if the hurricane stays off the coast, that side of the storm is where tornadoes are typically spawned. She said that is what she is worried about. The house my folks live in is in a subdivision with buried power lines, but the feeder lines are above ground about a mile away.
