I don't understand the desire to ingest things that are painful. I've eaten habenero peppers...they make your eyes water, your ears ache and your throat burn to the point where you can't enjoy the flavor of food. I like to enjoy the flavors of food...you can't enjoy flavors when your tongue and throat are are on fire.
To put things into perspective. The Naga Jolokia can be as much as 420 times hotter than a Jalapeno. I'd figure out the difference between a Habanero and a Naga Jolokia but there are many different species of Habanero, some actually have almost no heat at all. Needless to say the Naga is quite a bit hotter than even the spiciest Habanero.

The discomfort from spicy food actually releases endorphins that create pleasure. But yeah, you're right, if it's too hot you can't enjoy the flavour. Gotta find the right balance!
That sounds a bit extreme for me. Hottest I've had was a habanero and that was bad enough I don't want to try it again. Although I will concede eating it wasn't the worst part - it was later that night when my bowels needed passing. Felt like someone sparked up a blowtorch and held it directly against my rectum. I swear it's worse than giving birth.DJ_Lae
OP, I'm not a religious man by any stretch of the imagination, but I pray for you.
Godspeed.
I tried this 1 million scoville unit hot sauce that my aunt and uncle bought. They had to sign a waiver saying that they wouldn't put it in anyone's eyes or anything lol. I just put a tiny bit on the tip of my fork and put it on my tongue; I felt my tongue burn for the next 5 minutes lol. How big was the pepper? lol I can't imagine my entire mouth on fire for that long of a period of time. I've seen these 16 million scoville unit sauces online, and I think I read that it's chemically impossible to get any spicier than that lol.CJL182
16 million scoville is capsaicin, the active ingredient in chili peppers, in purified form. Pure capsicin is lethal if ingested in any great amounts.
this belongs in a blog where no one has a chance of reading itAncientNecro
actually this belongs on a thread because if he blogged it I never would have A.) read an interesting story, and B.) been educated about the world's hottest pepper.
But anyway, that sounds horrible. I hate spicy (spicy hot, not spicy flavorful) foods; I can barely tolerate hot sauces, and rarely eat hot peppers...though pepperoni and jalapeno pepper pizzas are pretty dang good.
Speaking of education here is a very cool article (with pics!) about the "ghost chili"

I'm going to ahve to pass on eating any chili or really hot peppers. eating food is supposed to be enjoyable, not torture. :(DJ-Lafleur
For... some... people... those two words mean one in the same.

The Red Savina Habanero comes very close. The thing about peppers is, it's hard to reproduce the same heat level over and over. I've ate a Naga Jolokia and it was very bad, but I personally think the Dorset Naga and the Bhut Jolokia are hotter.
The hottest I've eaten is red pepper (not the sweet one) but it didn't have the severe effects as the ones you describe. :PTeenaged
Red Pepper is a pretty generic term. Do you mean a Scotch Bonnet?

Bhut and Naga Jolokia are the same peppers just different names. The Dorset is a particular breed of Naga. Please Log In to post.
