It's a pretty popular show. When it's coming to an end it's going to be a big deal. She could start watching then or she could just check up on the internet or something.

...that's not how see sees it. I usually just play around on the internet while she watches. but some of their voices/gags are highly annoying and hard to block out

After watching like 8 straight episodes of HIMYM over the past hours, im gonna go give arrested dev a shot so i can compare. I doubt ill like it as much as HIMYM, i just cant stop watching it. I never knew Neil Harris before i started watching this, but this guy was born for this role, wich is extremely ironical cause he is gay IRL lol.

My wife and I love it also. Lily and Marshall are the show for us, Barney is a close second.

My favorite episodes are Swarley(season 2) and Spoiler Alert(season 3).

Oh yes b/c every show that came out before the 2000's were so terribly unfunny....

DharmaMember77

Actually, yes, pre-2000 sitcoms were, with a few notable exceptions, pretty terrible and unfunny.

So I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke All in the Family, MASH, Roseanne, Cheers, Frasier, 3rd Rock from the Sun, That 70's Show, Seinfeld, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, and Monty Python's Flying Circus are all shows that are terrible and unfunny?

Like I said, there are exceptions, although I'd say even the majority of what you listed was trash. They were all popular, but popular =/= good (see: Twilight, Justin Beiber). The problem with sitcoms is that they're extremely cliche-driven. The same jokes and gags are recycled again and again across shows; it's so bad that a lot of them can be traced back to sitcoms from the 50s and 60s (obviously, the content of the joke changes over time to stay relevant, but it's still the same joke). Even worse, often entire episodes are recycled. In other words, if you have seen one sitcom you have LITERALLY seen them all.

It's one of those series where if you've got the DVDs on hand, once it clicks, you'll blow through the whole series and love it. I generally hate laugh track/formulaic sitcoms, but HIMYM is the last "good" one (if compared to 2.5 Men/Big Bang Theory/2 Broke Girls).

Though, after watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a lot of other comedies got a lot less funny to me, and that includes HIMYM. But I was really taken aback when I first started watching (Fox was showing reruns, and I started watching with the "Nothing Good Ever Happens At 2AM" ep). It wasn't *just* a string of set-up>punchline gags like Chuck Lorre productions. It actually had heart. I was really into it last year, and while I'm still hanging on to the new season, it's dropped off my list of favourite shows already.

mmm >.> if this impresses you...i wonder what Arrested Development would do for you. Basically blow your mind i guess.CosmoKing7717

That's not entirely fair :|. AD>HIMYM, of course, but the show is not without merits. It is possible to like both. I'm getting tired of the snooty attitudes of sitcom elitists. With the Community cancellation scare, people have been hitting up other circles to generate buzz, and somebody finally said good riddance and called them out for their years of pissing on *lesser* sitcoms. I love Community, but I had to agree with that guy.

Barney really is a great character. He's the only one that really "gets" Ewoks.

lol I think South Park explained what you're saying the best in "Simpsons did it", but anyway I'm curious as to what shows i listed you think are trash and what are some sitcoms you actually enjoy yourself.

[QUOTE="MichBelle"]I recently got into the show, too, and was really surprised. I still can't stand Ted or Robin, but everyone else makes the show worth it. I need to go back and watch it from the beginning.Drakes_Fortune
Whats wrong with Ted? He is awsome. After Barney he is the best.

ted is a total douche-bag. the show is still entertaining though.

"How I Met Your Mother" - The longest 'sit there and I'll tell you a story' story in the history of all mankind.

Seriously those kids must be withered dessicated dead bodies on that sofa by now.

MissLibrarian

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel about the show now. The first 2-3 seasons were cool because it felt unique, at least in the premise of the story. However, it just lost all meaning of its title when it began focusing more on the marriage of Marshall and Lily and the on/off relationship between Barney and Robin.

With that said, my favourite episode from the several episodes I've seen from the first 3 seasons is the one with the New Year's parties. Always puts a smile on my face whenever I catch it on TV.

The first few years were great. The last season and this season have seemed to have gotten a little stale. Almost like they have run out of plots so they are just on auto pilot.

Its a good show but could had been made better. And my god, Ted's story when will Ted end his story. Better than Ashton Kutcher ruining Two and Half Men atleast. The current season lacks regular Barney humor but is compensating it with a better story.

Iv watched Arrested Development first episode. It was ok, it has potential but im still too much addicted to HIMYM to give AE a chance. And i just saw the best episode so far on HIMYM :

It was hilarious, and the Barney revelation at the end was really nice.

Man you have been missing out. I actually think this season has been the poorest season, so I am surprised you got into it. I think seasons 3-5 were the best. I also am hating Robin lately, shes so dykey.

it's new on netflix and i keep watching them to try and see what people are going on about with it.

so far i'm about 7 eps in and i'm not seeing it.

it's just sitcom 101.

horny guy. unrequited love, everyman, neighborhood hangout, funny neighbors just this time they live with the everyman. meh, it's ok, just generic beyond belief.

i'm going to keep watching them sometimes these things don't hit their stride for a few episodes.
